| Taren12-15-07, 01:24 PM | just found out the party is going to kill my character, the GM thought it would be a great plot hook to have my character given the artifact they were hired to get. and explain to teh party the person that hired them is evil and shouldn't get the artifact... it seemed okay until today. it appears they are going to simply attack my character to retrieve the artifact and make good on their original plan. since combat can't be avoided and we are of sufficient level to have everyone ressurrected (17) I need some help in putting the hurt on. I need some spells to be made contingent and buffs to have in place beforehand. I don't know their classes but there are a couple casters and a shapeshifter. no clerics though. |
| DMsDelight12-15-07, 01:37 PM | I could help if I knew more info... I need a class, spell list, etc. However, I don't see why you cant just say, "hey, don't kill my character, that seems a little unnecessary..." |

That will hurt them more than you ever could in combat - they'll have to res you to get it back ... So a contingent Recall on a bag of holding or something to place it where they don't know it has gone will really get their goat :D . They have killed a party member, moved their alignment to ward evil, and for what? They have to go looking for the artifact again ... of course they can res you or speak with dead, but I am sure you can manage to have the character arrange to not know where the item will be when they look for it. Edit: if you are really cunning, you could have them duped with a copy of the artifact. They present to the BBEG ... he goes ballistic and attacks! |

Edit: if you are really cunning, you could have them duped with a copy of the artifact. They present to the BBEG ... he goes ballistic and attacks! I like that plan. Just be really clever in hiding the artifact. Like teleport into a large forest and burry it under a tree. That way when they use speak with dead, the answer can something like "in the earth, or under a tree." Leave no special markings on the tree at all. Or if it is a book stash it a library. Your other option is to open combat by t-porting out. As for good spells to use, time stop is crowd pleaser, as gate, and shape shift. If their saves are low there is always wial of the banshy, and if you have the time I recomend summon elemental monolith with black blade of desastor. |
| Etarnon12-15-07, 04:32 PM | Another option is leave the game. |
| Axiomatic_vampire12-15-07, 05:14 PM | Sounds like an interesting scenario. More information on your character and the most powerful or most used tactics you've seen the party use would be the place to start. As well, think in terms of tricks you have that the party hasn't seen. You might need the element of surprise for this. |
| Voran12-15-07, 05:42 PM | Its a lame situation, since honestly, if the GM wants your char dead, your char is going to be dead. Which defeats the purpose of playing in the first place. As mentioned try to resolve this out of group, alternate approaches, etc. If not, ask yourself 'is this a group I want to be in?' |
| metalmayhem8011012-15-07, 05:56 PM | Well, unfortunetly, I can't help unless I know more... But since you're level 17, I'm going to assume you have some cash. You can be cheap and buy a bunch of small bags of holding/portable holes etc. To get the entire party, get a large portable hole. Lay it on top of the tent they're sleeping in or whatever, than throw a bag of holding into it, and run There are rules for this in the DMG. Basically, they're getting violently sent to another plane. (Make sure the arcane caster isn't with them though, I mean you don't want them coming back do you? :P) |
| Taren12-15-07, 06:13 PM | Edit: if you are really cunning, you could have them duped with a copy of the artifact. They present to the BBEG ... he goes ballistic and attacks! I'm using Astral Projection with Plane shift to get into the material plane so even if they defeat me using force I don't die, I've also arranged for clones in my castle so in the event I do die I don't actually die. defeating the party is a better option, and I can rez them later, once they are raised they are going to be alone and I can reason with them...once reasoned with the gm plot hook moves forward. so its a win win. yep yep the fake artifact has a note attached to it saying "guess what? I prepared explosive runes today!" if they somehow manage to get it. |
| cptevil12-15-07, 06:26 PM | oooh i forgot about runes yes try runes of OMG WTF PWN :P but before they get the staff try to hurt them all with big spells like well big mage spells and if they win vs you then theres still the runes |
| IAmTheScum12-15-07, 06:30 PM | Throw it into the River Styx for safekeeping. |
| cptevil12-15-07, 06:45 PM | OOooOOH! oooOoOoh! put it on a dam full of beavers (if its some kind of staff any ways) |
| Krusk12-15-07, 08:39 PM | Make 5 or 6 copies of said artifact, jumble them up so even you can't tell which is which. Then hide them all over in various hard to get to locations. Then buy yourself a dungeon, hide in the bottom most gaurded room. Draw out a map to the hidden locations of the objects and keep it on your person. Then hand the DM your sheet, and roll up someone new. Now youve got a quest complete with BBEG, dungeon crawl, and fantastic locations. |
