| Insane Pixie10-30-04, 11:47 AM | I have started this thread because I am an idiot with D&D questions. My first is, under special abilities, on the back of the v3.5 char sheet, what do i put, if I have something to put, and If I have something to put, where would I find what I have to put? EDIT: Got another. And another. What is a deflection bonus for AC? Where can I find it? Same for natural armor (but mostly where). What are "Touch" and "Flat-footed"? How do I know if I have damage reduction? Ditto for "Spell resistance". Do I apply racial bonuses and penalties directly onto my ability score, or put them as a temp modifier? |
| Bringslite10-30-04, 12:10 PM | I would like to help you but it would be easier if we knew whether you are using version 3.0 or 3.5. :) |
| Insane Pixie10-30-04, 12:13 PM | I have v3.0 PHB, but I'm using a v3.5 char sheet. |
| Bringslite10-30-04, 12:44 PM | Okay let's see, I believe Special abilities is the space for abilities that are gained for your race. Like the elves chance to notice a secret door, a dwarves Armor class bonus vs. giants, or the gnomes low light vision. It is also for special class abilities like barbarian rage, thief sneak attack, or the druids wildshape. These are listed under the class and race descriptions. They do not include feats or skills. Deflection bonus to AC is a bonus for magical armor, items worn/used, or spell affects. Until your character has any of these it is "0". PHB pg. 277 Natural AC bonus is a different bonus usually granted to creatures with a very tough skin, spell affect, or magical item that grants "Natural Armor". It would also be in the racial, spell, or item description. PHB pg.280 Touch armor class PHB pg.119 & 125 Flat Footed PHB pg. 120 Don't feel like an idiot. I have been playing for months and still look things up nearly every combat and always when making a character. Hope this helps. :) |
| Bringslite10-30-04, 12:48 PM | Oh and.... Your racial bonuses and penalties should be calculated into your pemanent scores, not temporary. |
| Insane Pixie10-30-04, 12:50 PM | Ok. How do I find my ranged attack bonus? |
| Malus Black10-30-04, 01:03 PM | Ok. How do I find my ranged attack bonus? Your Base Attack Bonus (see the table for the relevant class) + your Dexterity modifier + possible feats such as Weapon Focus (ranged weapon of your choice) or Point Blank Shot + any bonus the weapon might add, for example if it is masterwork. |
| Bringslite10-30-04, 01:04 PM | Ok, Ranged attack bonus is calculated by Base Attack Bonus (BAB) + Dexterity Modifier + Feats + any bonus to hit (attack bonus) such as magic weapons. |
| Insane Pixie10-30-04, 01:23 PM | Oh. My. God. I finished. I finished. I FINISHED!!!!!!!! :fight!: Oh, i forgot...I have no one to play with... Oh well, I'll just post his stats. | Telperion10-30-04, 02:19 PM | Congrats :). My suggestion to you: 1. Look for a friendly face from your FLGS who can get you into contact with like-minded gamers. 2. Seek a DM from the internet 3. Look for an internet based game with an experienced DM (you can usually identify an experienced DM by how well he can explain things to you). |
