| xdiscox10-15-07, 01:00 AM | my DM wants us to roll characters using the Dm guide but i unfortunatly don't have one at the moment and don't have access to one so my question is... In the Dm guide there is a section about ability scores and raising them. for each ability score i get an automatic 8 points in it and i get 30 additional points to raise my ability scores with but when i raise a point for 8-9, 13-14, etc how many points do i lose from my origional 30 points i had to begin with? |

| Tytalus10-15-07, 12:08 PM | You can also use this (http://yellowrex.com/tools/pbcalc.php)one that adjusts for racial ability modifiers. Note that this one does not conform with the rules. First, you can't have stats of less than 8 using pointbuy, and second it allows for stats below the minimum for races with stat penalties (i.e., half-orcs with INT 1). |
| Ace_of_time10-15-07, 03:52 PM | It is point for point up till 15. 15-16 is 2 points each and 17-18 are 3 points each. so a 9 cost 1 point but a 14 cost 6 points and a 18 cost 16 points. You DM could say no cost table. Then all would cost 1 point each so a 18 would cost 10 points. I think it's about 50% that do use the cost table then that don't. That would be up to the DM. |

First, you can't have stats of less than 8 using pointbuy, and second it allows for stats below the minimum for races with stat penalties (i.e., half-orcs with INT 1). I never used that one but I found it with a short search. We usually use the first one. I like it nice and simple. I can always add the modifiers myself. Thanks for pointing that out though. I'll stop recommending it to people. |
