Okay.. I just started playing DND... I actually started with the StarWars DND, because thats what all my real life friends are playing. So i searched online for sites that host boards or mIRC versions of dm campaigns and i found a few. They require me to make my own character-- This is all 3.5e and i have the players handbook the 3 monster manuals DM and epic level guide. Now i know i dont need all of those but i was explaining what i had ;P. I started reading through the players hand book and im SO lost. I know what i want to create, i either want to make an elf druid or an elf ranger... how do i go about doing this? I dont understand what to right and how to right it and what to roll etc... I know you guys probably get millions of these a day but please spare me ;P. If you dont mind helping you can post up here or IM me on aim/aol at: GosuZzang

:D it's true, they're a lot like you but it's cool.
i'll explain that to you.

first you must roll your stats
roll 4d6 ( 4 dices with 6 faces ) and put them together ex: 4+6+3+1 you substract the lower number ( 1 in that case ) and the result is 13. you do that 6 times and every number is a stat that you choose ! ex: you rolled 13, 15, 16, 10, 17, 11 . if you're a ranger you need dex. after you attribute a number to each stats
ex:
stats......mod.
str: 16....+3
dex: 17....+3
con:15....+2
int:11.....+0
wis:13....+1
cha:10....+0

your hp is a dice you roll every level. this dice change with your class
a v3 ranger is a d10. and at your first level you have the maximum so 8 + con modif ( a modifier is a number attached to your stats ) so 8 + 2 = 10
this is your hp at your first level. when you gain a lvl you roll a d8 + 2

well, i think it will take time if i want to explain everything in a reply but add me in your msn and i'll explain more in detail.

Champion_of_Tyr pretty much covered everything, also start thinking of a backround for your character so you can be a good roleplayer and not just a roll-player.

Okay well.. heres where im confused.. The DM said we start with these points:

Level 2 characters
stats are: 18/16/15/14/12/10 and gold is 200. Pm with characters.

So now i put it into my stat sheet, and it gave me this.. (my sheet is an online sheet from 3eprofiles.com
Score Mod Temp Score Temp Mod
18 ...+4
16 ...+3
15 ...+2
14 ...+2
12 ...+1
10 ...+0

Okay so im an Elf Ranger... I need to at my +2 dex and -2 con for being an Elf. #1 where do i add that, and #2 what does the "mod" mean.. what exactly does it do and how do you calculate it?

Link to my sheet:

Edit-- Okay i just now understood that we can move the 6 scores around as we please, i thought they were locked as he wanted them too. I will change that later... but for now to avoid confusion can we just use those scores above?

You would add the +2 to your dex total and subtract the -2 from your con total. That will give you your final totals. Mod is short for modifier just like dex is short for dexterity.

200 gold for a level 2 character? That seems pretty poor.
