If you are playing a wizard specialized in Necromancy, Intelligence is likely to be your most important stat (spellcasting). Constitution can be low if you plan to convert yourself into an undead being (no Con store, d12 HD), but you'll have to be careful until you qualify. (False Life will make you a little more durable, but you definitely want to befriend a fighter-type regardless.) Charisma can probably go low if you don't plan to take Leadership and/or Undead Leadership, and Dexterity is good because you are harder to hit. As far as race goes, I'd recommend staying away from anything too complex or with too great a Level Adjustment. If you want to turn into an undead creature, elves have a Constitution penalty that disappears once you go lich/necropolitan/corpse or bone creature. However, if you don't want to deal with the complexities involved in undeath, I advise you to go with halfling or gnome. You are harder to hit, can make touch attacks more easily, don't have to worry about weapon size, and can bypass your slow speed with overland flight. You are either tougher or harder to hit, and roleplaying an evil gnome or halfling can be pretty fun. Two pretty iconic spells are command undead (2nd level) and animate dead (4th level). These allow you to amass undead minions and allies fairly easily. Magic Jar is great because it lets you possess people, depleting their resources in battle in place of your own. I advise you to carefully consider which banned schools of magic you choose. You can probably get rid of either Enchantment or Illusion if you keep the other school, and Abjuration may be of limited utility, particularly if you have access to other spellcasters who can use it for you. EDIT: Almost forgot, http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=599129 has some good advice, but take it with a grain of salt. The options described are only some of the good ones available, and it focuses on Necromancy to the exclusion of most other forms of magic. |
