Help with a Ranger [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-10-04, 02:05 PM I need some helping with my new ranger character. For favored enemy i wanted to have it be lycanthropes, but there is no specific type that they fit into except humaniod. I'm taking this for background reasons (village attacked by werewolves) and I liked the idea in general. He's chaotic good, so taking humaniod is out of the question plus it wouldn't apply to all lycanthropes, so what do i do?:confused:

Examples include, but are not limited to;

humanoid (elf)
humanoid (orc)

Lycanthropes are usually humaoids with the shapechanger subtype. (note that I say usually)

Humanoid (shapechanger) should do the job. This would give you your FE bonus for most lycanthropes, doppelgangers and other types of shapechangers. Not sure if it would apply to the hill giant dire wearboar and similar, that's up to your DM

07-11-04, 05:58 PM Shapechanger was changed from a type to a subtype in 3.5. Humanoid (shapechanger) wouldn't let you get your FE bonus against dopplegangers, though. They're Monstrous Humanoid (shapechanger).

You don't have to worry about taking humanoid as a favored enemy, though. In 3.5 they removed the restriction about only evil rangers choosing their own type. It makes sense, too. You should be able to have a good aligned bandit hunter, IMO.
