A player in my Red Hand of Doom game is playing a Druid with the PHB2 Shapeshifting and Spontaneous Rejuvination variant. He isn't really enjoying the character, partially because he has bad experience with spellcasters.

He has currently chosen weapon focus (bite), improved natural armor, combat expertise, and improved trip as his feats. He is now asking to try out the original Druid rules so he can have an animal companion, thinking that he might like it better (or else he is asking to switch roles with another player, the warrior player, who is perfectly content with switching with him).

I'd like for the Druid player to stick with the Druid, but only if it can be made fun. So, what feats would you think would be a better choice for this character?

Note, he only has a base 12 Str, so if he took Power Attack it would only work in shapeshifted forms.

Thanks.

There really isn't much you can get him to do to want to play his character more if he just doesn't like it. Trying something like a feat, item, skill or the like is only a bandage for the current problem. The only way he could be truly happy is if he rolled another character for him to enjoy more. Make sure to test run this new character in a couple of scenarios before you get him into the party to make sure its something he wants.

His problem is he is trying to play a cleric as a fighter. It isn't. It won't be. I mean, it can rape a fighter at will, but... yea.

His build sounds like it would actually be pretty strong if he were running a standard Druid. Maybe let him start wild shaping as per the PHB. That adds a lot of flavor, in my opinion.
