As the only reason they are not permitted to is one of a cultural nature, nothing to do with mechanics. Also remember that when you choose an element, you will have to give up all spells from one other, so you should know which spells you will be wanting to use and which you cannot live without. If you take the heavy damage route and go with fire, you will never be able to use any healing magic. So you I went with earth for mine (It's my favorite of the elements which was my primary reasoning). giving up air. I'm not really missing those spells too much as you can still have access to the damaging spells from fire, the healing of water, and the protection of earth, along with a few good ones like flesh to stone and disintegrate. Plus the universal spells like summoning and dispel always come in handy. It's really just a matter of what you think will be the most useful and what you won't mind giving up. Also, be sure to note the typos in the spells per day chart as you reach higher levels if you are taking the class as printed in the complete divine. It's all out of whack. Just use the sorcerer spells per day chart, it's less confusing that way and it's exactly the same numbers, or it would be had they actually edited the book. Not sure if it would be worth going straight shujenja though. The ability to detect the elements isn't all that great when you get right down to it and you could probably get away with just taking it to a level high enough to qualify for something else which still allows spellcaster progression. my shujenja took a prestige class at around level 7 or 8 |
