Seems that my party and are have neon signs above our head pointing to us and shouting Good guys (mostly), please ambush. It's becomeing almost a daily occurance for us and is getting really annoying. We regularly jibe our DM about it, but he says it's part of the adventure and that he's just doing what it tells him to do. It seems dispite any precautions we take, the bad guys are always 1 step (or more ahead of us).

In out last adventure we've been searching crypts for a magic artifact that the baddies are also after. We've disguised ourselves as some of them to more easily navigate. We entered a crypt early in the morning, and i set an alarm spell at the entrance so we couldn't get snuck up on. The baddies sent some people in looking for us (how they knew we were there and that it was us i'll never know) and we left them alone and hide, so as not to tip anyone off outside waiting for these 2 to return. Our druid observed through the crypt door as the baddies walked away towards the city, then we waited a short while and left in the opposite direction that they went. Turns out they were waiting for us in this opposite direction (somehow they knew we were observing them leaving too so as not to head straight for the ambush location and also knew we would head in the opposite direction to be ambushed.

I'm wondering if there are any suggestions to help prevent further ambush's (in game, the DM here's enough complaints and jokes OOC to know how frustraited we are about it). My party consists of a Human fighter7th, Halfling rogue 7th and his cleric of pelor (i think) cohort, a 7th druid and myself, 7th wizard. Any advice would be appreciated, not sure if it will change anything, but i'd like to try or at least make my DM suffer to spring an ambush on us.

First off, your characters should ALWAYS be allowed Spot Checks immediately prior to the ambush to see if they notice something amiss. Your DM may roll these checks secretly, or (s)he may ask for them, but they are something you are entitled to have.

Most directly addressing your question, though: ask the DM to cut it out. "Just following the adventure" is a cop-out for the ONE person in the game with absolute power over the actions of EVERYONE in the world besides the PCs. Perhaps your DM is too inexperienced to handle modifying the published adventures he's running. Maybe he likes running ambushes. Pelor forbid he likes to think its him vs you. So...

Sit him down and ask him point blank to lay off the ambushes for a while. Not only is it unrealistic for your party to be constantly ambushed, the constant use of this little tactic is beginning to hamper your ability to enjoy the game. If he refuses, then perhaps you should consider finding a new DM (or taking over yourself).

I've spoken with him and he explained to me why we got ambushed this particular time, seems we got careless when entering the crypt which tipped off some workers who notified there leaders, etc. etc. etc. Under the circumstances i'll give him this one.

What i'm really after though is something i can do in game to help prevent being ambushed. Maybe a combination of spells or something.

if the bad guys know you might be coming, a scry could find out how, and where (and sometimes why) you are. so that gives them time for an ambush.... alternatively bad guys have permanent alarms and other warning tools (like cans on a string) to let them know where you are. So invest in a helm of non detection and get a rogue with a high spot, that should help with your ambush problem.
