My 10th lvl evil wizard is planning to try and break into a vault and steal a Book of Vile Darkness left there for safekeeping (most of the rest of the party is looking for a way to destroy it). The vault is located in an Adventurer's Guild that I am a member of. I have no idea how secure the vault is.

Basically, I am looking for possible ways the vault could be secured and how to overcome these. My character is far smarter than I am and should be able to come up with more contingencies, especially given that I am relatively new to D&D.

I would appreciate any input, and my character could really use the cash that some of the city's evil clerics are willing to pay for the book!

Dimension Door, about 3, Arcane Eye, for scouting, Some invisiblity spells, dominate, summon monster, for the time you WILL meet opposition.
Itīs easier just to torch it and then, while it's on fire, git into the vault and nick it.

Edit: ARe you a necromancer? Kill commoners, raise em as skellies, make 'em attack from front AND torch it. Then raid the vault.

Open/Close: Often overlooked, just because it is unlocked doesn't mean it isn't trapped.

And the other stuff people have said. And flaming sphere. Why? Just for the heck of it, really. Oh, and bring a heavy crossbow.

Add gaseous form and nondetection (For bypassing glyphs of warding) to what has already been mentioned - and heck, if you have enough spells to cover another person then hire on a very competent rogue to come with you...You can grab your book and he can grab whatever he wants...Then you slay him at a later date and deliver him up to the guild with all the stolen loot, save for that vile book which he must have sold off already to some infernalist or something...
...Because afterall, stealing it is just the first step. You do understand that they are going to look for whoever broke into their guildhouse, what adventurers worth that title would not?

Detect magic, Dispel Magic, Detect Secret Doors

Keep a few healing potions. A few scrolls to back you up.

Have you seen the vault? The inside of the vault? Are you a member of the adventuring guild?

If you can steal the book carefully, leave a duplicate behind with a nystuls magic aura.Consider being disquised while stealing.Start rumor that thieves guild or rich noble has it,and use mind control to cause false confession, wear disguise so that if mind control is broken another dupe is blamed, these cut-outs may help.
