| programmertim02-15-07, 01:18 PM | I posted this in general, and it was suggested I post it here. **************************************** ***************** What are the affects of bull rushing a character into or through another characters space? The latest example of our issue is this. Imagine a grid with letters running east to west A-Z, and numbers running north to south 1-10. North of 1 is a drop-off into water. PC1 is standing at A1, and PC2 is at A2. A villain (undead elf of some sort) bull rushes PC2 and beats the strength check by enough to move the PC 10 feet. 1) What happens to PC1 as PC2 goes into and through his space? In this particular case, PC1 allowed PC2 to pass through, as he has no strength bonus. 2) What if PC2 had just been pushed into the space, and not through? 3) What happens to PC1 as the villain tries to stop in PC1's space, as the villain didn't want to go off the edge. Our DM allowed the villain to bull-rush both characters off the edge, since it was not PC1's initiative so he could not take a 5 foot step to get out of the space. Other than rule 0, is that legal? I can think of two main entries in the core books that come into play. First, the elf would have had to be able to make multiple attacks to bull rush two characters. Second, I believe I have seen somewhere that you cannot end your action in someone else's space (barring 3 size categories larger stuff) and if for some reason your action does end with you in someone else's space, you must move to the last valid space. Do the rules I mentioned come into play? Is there something I'm missing? What is the legal (barring Rule 0) answer? **************************************** *************** The only reply in the general forum was to have the villain stop in square A2, with PC2 prone in square A1. The prone was taken from the fact that if the attacker fails a bull rush, he moves back and will fall prone if that square is occupied. I see that more as a penalty for trying a bull rush in such a situation and believe that PC2 should probably be moved into the (or one of the) closest legal square per the "accidentally ending movement in an illegal space" rules. If the villain wanted PC2 prone, he should have done a trip attack instead of a bull rush. Any other thoughts? |
