For my DM has informed me that in his next campaign I'm going to be the only player. This seems very cool to me  So I've been wracking my brain to come up with a fun character. I decided I want to play an epic hero type, similar to Hercules, Conan, or Beowulf.

My DM informs me that I'll be starting at level 4, and I have rolled the following stats: 18, 16, 15, 12, 12, 10. I'd like your opinions on the best way to go about building this character. Where should I put the stats, what class should I take, what feats would be best, what skills would be best? I'm just looking to brainstorm here and build an interesting character.

Thanks for any help you can give.

EDIT: Oh, I'm allowed to use the PHB, Arms and Equipment Guide, Tome of Magic, Heroes of Battle, and Heroes of Horror.

Interesting choice of sourcebooks. Has your DM given you any information on your game world? Your character inspiration implies an earlier-than-medieval, dawn-of-history feeling. Tome of Magic, Heroes of Battle and Heroes of Horror seem to promise large-scale warfare and weird magics.

I'd say, class-wise, start off with a Barbarian base. Two levels of it gives you Uncanny Dodge and two huge d12 hit dice. After that your PC is ripe for customizing to the DM's world. Especially if he's using Pact Magic (or shudder Truenaming).

You should find out more about the setting. That'll really help you design your hero's background and, subsequently, his class levels.

Peace.

I'd consider

1. Something with plenty of skill-points - just in case
2. A wandering monk (yes I know it's been done, but it would be fun to play, Grasshopper!!)
3. Obtaining Leadership in two level's time to fill in any gaps

I'd be tempted to try and play a good rogue cos it's about the only time you're going to get it to work (no noisy fighters clod-hopping about) - my prob being that cos my two DM's don't really like rogues I don't get to play them as I'd like. Let us know how it goes!!

I'd go with STR DEX CON INT WIS CHA

In order, with what you have. and then barb / rogue.

That's more or less conan, right there, good luck.

I would go with a summoner build. Don't know that many but druid is about the best core only summon choice. You can learn produce flame and the rest in heals and switch out the summons when needed. Don't know any good pro class for summoners ether but I'm sure some on here do.

For the epic hero thing Go one of the VOP feat. that should take care of that part. then just build as you like.
