07-21-05, 07:36 PM HP is determined by your hit dice. If you're a level 7 Wizard, you have 7 hit dice. The Wizard's hit die is a d4. At first level, you automatically assume to have maxed out the die. In the case of the Wizard, you automatically roll a 4. For each hit die (and level) beyond the first, you roll the die and add that total to your HP. In addition, you also get a bonus to your HP at each level equal to your CON bonus. Say our Wizard friend has a CON score of 15, which equals a bonus of +2. He gets his +2 bonus at each level. Since he's a 7th level, that equals +14 HP. So his current HP would be 4+6d4+14 (which averages to about 33).

Your base save is determined by your character class. Refer to the table for the character to determine the base save. For a 7th level Wizard, you refer to table 3-18: The Wizard on page 55 of the PHB. Go down to the 7th row and move to the right to see which base save bonus you get, in this case +2 for Fort, +2 for Ref, and +5 for Will. Don't forget to also add the relevant ability modifier (CON for Fort, DEX for Ref, and WIS for Will). If the 7th level Wizard is forced to make a Fortitude save, he rolls a d20 and adds his base save modifier (+2) and his CON modifier (+2 in the case of a CON of 15).

Touch and Flat-Footed are forms of Armor Class under certain circumstances. Touch AC indicates the attack does not need to penitrate or avoid armor. So Touch AC is your AC score without adding in the usual bonus for armor or a shield. A Wizard is not proficiant with armor or shields, so a Wizards Touch AC is generally the same as his regular AC. Flat-Footed means your character is not aware of the attack or cannot act upon it, so you do not add your DEX modifier to AC, but you do still add armor and shield bonuses.

07-21-05, 10:13 PM Like I said, the base saves are on the tables for the classes, but there's also a paragraph on page 22, a small bit on page 6, and a section on page 135 and 136 as well. Info on HP at first level can be found on page 6 as well, and HP for advancing levels on page 58. Touch attacks are on page 136. Flat-Footed information is on the top of page 137. All pages, of course, are from the Player's Handbook.
