| Wonton200601-23-07, 07:11 PM | I'm starting a new campaign, where there will be two characters, both controlled by me. I'm looking for advice on which classes to pick. I'm thinking probably definitely just a straight cleric. It's the other one that I'm thinking about which class to have. Help me out here, please. [I also posted this in "Classes"] |
| mcnoo01-23-07, 07:27 PM | I'm thinking probably definitely just a straight cleric. [I also posted this in "Classes"] HOMOPHOBE! *insert winking eye emote here in case people didn't realize I was joking* That's going to involve some worryingly schizophrenic roleplaying. Have you considered a druid instead of a cleric? The wild shape will come in handy to fill in the roles of some of the missing skills from a bigger party, and you won't need the full healing potential of a cleric because there'll be less of you to spread it among. Maybe make it a pair of rogues with well distributed skill points so between them they can do EVERYTHING. Working the fights so you can flank and both get your sneaks attacks in will more than make up for not having a fighter. Get them both improved feint too so you can deal with those pesky cornered foes. |
| Comus01-23-07, 07:27 PM | Druid. The other one should be a Druid. The first one should also be a Druid. Then you'll have a four-member party with only two characters. Also, take some Leadership. For both characters. |
| mcnoo01-23-07, 07:29 PM | Leadership, good call, I second the motion. |
| Crimson_Concerto01-23-07, 07:35 PM | Mmkay, people, let's remember that not everybody makes their clerics and druids to fill every single party role. This guys wants a real answer. I would personally recommend Rogue, I think. Both your characters are acceptable in melee, your cleric has healing and tanking covered, and the rogue has the skill monkey role down and can even Use Magic Device where necessary to fill in the gaps in the Cleric's spell list. |
| Onikani01-23-07, 08:36 PM | maybe a warmage (i know, i know). The cleric can buff while the Warmage blasts, and at the last minute - melee ensues! And for super lameness - have them each take level 1 as a rogue so they both get sneak attack and a nice set of skills and points. Seriously though... i'd do it, it's a fun combo. |
| Wonton200601-23-07, 09:36 PM | Excellent advice, everyone! By the way, my DM's sick of druids, and I kind of am too, so none of those... After reading the Gray Guard PrC, I'm thinking of having a Cleric/Paladin/Grey Guard. That would cover the "tank" niche nicely and the healer "niche" pretty well, too. The Aasimar looks like an excellent race for this with +2 Wisdom and +2 Charisma for only +1LA. I'm thinking maybe Rogue/Invisible Blade for the other one. Would fill the skill monkey niche, as well as add more combat power. The "blaster" niche is unfortunately missing, but for arcane spells that are necessary but not available, like Fly or Knock there's always UMD. This guy would probably be a halfling or some other dextrous race, maybe Elf. By the way, they're starting at level 10. |
| pmurray@bigpond.com01-23-07, 10:22 PM | Maybe make it a pair of rogues with well distributed skill points so between them they can do EVERYTHING. And spiked chains, so they can provide flanking for one another. sneak-attack-o-rama. |
| pmurray@bigpond.com01-23-07, 10:24 PM | The Aasimar looks like an excellent race for this with +2 Wisdom and +2 Charisma for only +1LA. I'm thinking maybe Rogue/Invisible Blade for the other one. And make him a Tiefling. You'll need one heck of a backstory ... Twins!!! |
| Wonton200601-23-07, 10:34 PM | "+2 Intelligence, +2 Dexterity, -2 Charisma" This is perfect! You are my hero! Tiefling and Aasimar. You're right, I'll need one HECK of a backstory. And if they're twins...? "Despite their best attempts to kill each other in the womb..." |
| mcnoo01-23-07, 11:21 PM | Presumably twins from a half fiend and a half celestial who were constantly competing as kids, and are still trying to show off to each other as they go adventuring. |
| Wonton200601-23-07, 11:54 PM | I rolled up the stats.... Assuming my DM allows, this, after all adjustments,... Aasimar Str 15 Dex 9 Con 14 Int 13 Wis 18 Cha 18 Tiefling Str 12 Dex 21 Con 14 Int 16 Wis 7 Cha 10 Not bad, I think. |
| Thomar_of_Uointer01-24-07, 12:16 PM | I rolled up the stats.... Assuming my DM allows, this, after all adjustments,... Aasimar Str 15 Dex 9 Con 14 Int 13 Wis 18 Cha 18 Tiefling Str 12 Dex 21 Con 14 Int 16 Wis 7 Cha 10 Not bad, I think. Nice. I use point buy in my campaigns, but that's just preference. First one is definitely a cleric. Pick the Magic domain to improve your versatility, and probably one of the elemental ones for offensive ability. Maybe Travel... Second one is easily a rogue. With the cleric, he probably won't even need Use Magic Device. You could probably pick a bunch of athletic skills. |
| Onikani01-24-07, 06:39 PM | with the teifling rogue build, i would dip 3 levels of Swashbuckler for some extra HP and BAB. Weapon finesse is really nice for free when you have a 20+ dex. Also you'll get to add your int bonus to damage. Aaaand htere is a feat in Complete scoundral which lets you stack your Swash and Rogue levels for determining SA dmg. So you get weapon finesee for free, but take another feat in is spot. And you end up with the same number of sneak attack dice. And extra BAB. and extra Hp. And extra damage. And a better fort save. Then after Rogue 4, swash 3 take a Prc so you don't have multiclassing penalties.... mmmm, nightsong enforcer (comadv), Weapon + Str + Int + 6d6 SA at level 10. :D |
| Dag01-25-07, 12:09 AM | If it's a Duet game you're certainly going to want a bard, maybe even two of them. If you're locked in with one being a cleric then you will need a bard. Someone to keep the cleric on key when they're singing and to work out the harmonizing and musical arrangements. Maybe spend a few cross-class skill points with your cleric into perform so he can at least keep the beat or something. Good luck with that, hopefully your duo will soon have a loyal following throughout the realm. |
| kelvinaw27301-25-07, 06:33 PM | Well, you could cover your bases with a pair of multi-classed synergic characters ... say a wizard(or sorcerer)/cleric(or druid or favoured soul)/mystic theurge for magic support and a rogue/ranger or rogue/monk for skills and combat. The 'generalist' classes might work well if you don't want to multi-class or prestige class much - bard, monk and ranger do OK, and cleric/druid is always a good option. |
