| Artifact_of_Time03-09-06, 06:14 PM | Oky I was playing a 15/15 Warrior/Cleric, Deep Dwarf, Vindicator Kit, in 2ed. The DM hasent ran the game with our group in about a 2 years and know wants to run our group with the new 3.5 group. Any Ideas on how to convert this charicter. To the best of my knouledge I am going to lose 10 levels converting this charicter and that would kill him. I can not find anything that comes close to what he was. I was told that their was a vindicator presteage class in 3.5 but can not find it anywere. The only way that I can find to convert him and keep his levels is to convert him as a Galian class charicter from unearth arcana being as that was the way that the dm was having me play him. Any help or pointers you guys can give me. You will probably have more hitpoints and very good saving throws. You are now essentially equivalent to a level 30 character. Multi-class characters add the two classes together to get level. As a fighter you will have about 8 feats I think and as a cleric about 6 feats. the bracers wont work with the armor as they are both armor saves. I think field plate I would consider as full plate. That would be a +9 to armor. I think you might be a little light in the armor department. The +5 adamintine sword will be fine. This is all off the top of my head and am incorrect about some of this but with a little work with you and your dm it can be figured out. I would though recommend that you start with a new character and learn the 3.5 from the bottom up. I have run all editions of D&D and found with 3.5 I needed to start at the bottom and work my way up the system before I tried to convert 2nd ed characters |
| Mr.Sinister03-09-06, 07:31 PM | Well, there's a free conversion guide, written by Skip Williams, that can be found here: http://kalimshar.free.fr/telechargerment/3rd%20Ed.Conversion%20spreads.zip or on many other sites. Basically, your 2nd ed. 15warrior/15cleric character, once converted to 3rd ed., would have 20 levels to split between fighter and cleric (and maybe a prestige class if dm allows it). The math is explained on page 2 or 3 of the Conversion Manual. Good gaming! P.S. When my group first played 3rd ed, we did the conversion from 2nd ed but the play was squishy to say the least, most of the characters had changed drastically in power/abilities, we didn't quite get all the new rules and having high level characters made it even more difficult. We finally decided to scrape it and begin anew, 1st level and all. It really helped get a good grasp on the new system. |
| Capt. Pixel03-09-06, 07:58 PM | I suggest making a new PC for your new game. Myself and others in our group have attempted this AD&D to 3.x conversion with favorite PCs. There's always one or two you hate to give up. We just can't ever make it work to our satisfaction. ('tis a shame, they were some fun characters) The good news is that we've also developed some very enjoyable and memorable PCs since conversion to 3.x. Bite the bullet. It doesn't hurt. |
| pangalactic03-10-06, 09:25 AM | When we decided to change from 2E to 3.0, we simply remade the characters at level 1 using the same concepts and taking equivalent feats and skills. It was an interesting experience, getting to play the same character from first level again and seeing how differently they turned out having gone through different experiences. |
| OravennasBrother03-10-06, 04:32 PM | I'll also suggest just starting with new characters or keeping to 2nd edition. 3.X has a lot of problems which can ambush a DM accustomed to 2nd edition, and it is better to seem them as the party goes up levels than to catch them in a single lump. I tried converting several 2nd edition characters, mostly Male Human Fighters, and none of them turned out the way I wanted - the 3.X rules just don't have the same structure as 1st/2nd and it shows in how characters convert. |
