| Raikou_Sendo02-03-07, 01:21 AM | I am pretty new to D&D and have been participating in a group that plays once a week. We have seven people in the group most are new to the game. Anyway, we are starting to play a game with the offspring of our characters from the last game. the DM setup the rules for each persons halfbreed. I am running a half-elf half-tiefling. The DM gave me stats of +2 int. and +2 dex. He also gave me dark vision and + 20 to magical sleep effects, and I get to choose one of the three resistances the tiefling has to fire electricity or cold. My rolls were 17,16, 16, 16, 14, and 12. We are starting at level 5. I have never played a wizard before and I was wondering the best combination of feats and skills to use. We are authorized only the 3 core rule books, and the forgotten realms campaign book. I was thinking of making my stats this (after the racial mods and level adjustments.): STR 16 DEX 18 CON 16 INT 20 WIS 14 CHA 12 Any help would be greatly appreciated!! |

Combat Casting could also be a good choice if you plan on not staying completely out of the way in battle. Also, one feat that you absolutely need is Eschew Materials. Unless your DM lets you cast spells without specifically finding the material components first, that is a must. |

Second for eschew matierials. id advise against combat casting, and just say put max ranks in concentration. Which you should have tons of skill points so your fine. |

Nice work:P . Now for that Wizard, you might want to switch STR to Wis and Dex to Con. That would mean higher will save and more hitpoints which is always nice. For feats, you should look into Craft Wonderous Item(always comes in handy), Craft Wand and some Metamagic feats. If you can convince your Dm to let you use the Player's Guide to Faerún you really should take Iron Will as one of your feats and take the Incantatrix prestige class, it is arguably the best Wizard prestige class around. For later on Quicken Spell is very nice, Extend can come in handy for buffs(getting a Metamagic Rod would be better though), if you are using the original version of Spellcasting Prodigy that's also a good one. Keep Concentration, Spellcraft and as many Knowledge skills as you can maxed out at most, if not all, levels. Leave a few spell slots open every day so that you can adapt to any situation in a matter of a few minutes. Scribe lots of scrolls, mostly spells that don't see a lot of use but when they do they are vital. For example Flesh to Stone is a spell that sees almost no use but if you need it, you really need it. Make heavy use of Buff spells. Spells like False Life, Mage Armor should never go uncast. Well, thats about all the advice I can think of given what sources you have open to you. Good gaming! |
