| Kyle_the_DM10-02-06, 10:36 AM | Here's the situation: My party has no cleric and our only healing item consists of a wand of CLW with an unknown number of charges. Aside from buying tons of potions, how can we make up for the lack of a divine spellcaster without multiclassing? As far as I know, no one in the group has any intention to multiclass into cleric, druid, favored soul, healer, etc. Here is the party: Elf Fighter (me) - working towards arcane archer - 2.5 ranks in use magic device Elf Sorceress - no healing abilites, was in the negative three times last week Changeling Rogue - no healing abilites Kalistar? Psychic Warrior - also no healing abilities, fortunately has autohypnosis Any thoughts? |
| Rowan_Whispercloak10-02-06, 11:01 AM | If the Psychic warrior is willing to take the following powers then it will be helpful: 2nd Body Adjustment (this will let him heal himself) Empathic Transfer (will allow him to heal others by taking their damage this can include ability damage) Body Purification (if ability damage is a problem then this on may be need as well) Hope that helps, however psionic based healing is generally a pain because it thats two different powers to completely remove the damage. Other than than that there is only a prestige class in the complete divine that would allow the sorcerer to learn cleric spells. Good luck |
| Lunar_Shadow10-02-06, 12:29 PM | Cleric NPC will solve your problems. Just have your group go to a church and get a cleric to join you. |
| Augurer10-02-06, 02:02 PM | I think all the RAW options have been identified. And in the Eberron setting, finding a Cleric that can actually cast spells should be pretty difficult, and contracting their services to be used in the field should be nigh impossible, and extremely expensive. I think the Psychic Warrior could also use Vigor and Empathic Transfer for healing. |
| Voldar_Mecorthio10-02-06, 05:53 PM | Well, your choices are get a custom made magic item that lets you use cure spells unlimited times per day (not that expencive according to the make-your-own-magic tables in DMG), have the psionic warrior use those powers, have someone multiclass to cleric, or use the complete divine PrC. Getting a cleric's aid is essentially DMPCing, which is a bad ide 99.99% of the time. |
| The_Tiefling10-02-06, 06:12 PM | I hope I'm right on this, but I believe that a wiz/sorc can cast divine magic at two spell levels higher. If that's true, and your sorcorer can learn the CLW spell, s/he can craft another CLW. Just a thought, hope it helps. |
| Totentanz10-02-06, 06:14 PM | Without multiclassing and without spending loads of money on magic items you won't get any decent healing. DnD is still built around a niche system. Your party either fills that niche, or asks the DM to provide one in the form of a custom-made magic item, an NPC, or the DM lets you take Leadership and you get a healer-type as a cohort. While I don't want to hijack this thread, there is nothing inherently wrong with the DM having an NPC adventure with the group. If they are played as a quiet healer who follows orders, stays out of the way, and doesn't grandstand, great. The Psy War will quickly find his PP depleted by the above options, but it works. |
| Tiefling_Warlock10-02-06, 09:48 PM | Buy another wand and beg the rogue to get UMD ranks |
| Psionx10-02-06, 09:56 PM | somehow convince the dm to let you gestalt with one character having cleric as half, and make him get 3/4 the exp that everyone else recieves so at lvl 12 for everyone else he would be lvl 9 but with the 2 classes it might balance out. |
| Psionx10-03-06, 12:09 AM | Interestingly enough, according to SRD, a gestalt character is only as powerful as a normal PC of that level because of turn usage, therefore a cleric/fighter gestalt seems just fine (give the fighter some anti-magic and some healing potential, not that he would use it unless he had to which is the beauty of it) EDIT: read that starter of this thread is the fighter: so how do you feel about being a cleric/fighter gestalt? |

Your Sorceress could look at going into the Arcane Devotee PrC - it adds a clerical domain of spells to her known spells, I believe (no book so cannot check). Your Kalashtar could branch into Cleric or Ardent (both use Wisdom as their primary attibute, as it is for Psychic Warrior) - a level of Cleric would allow automatic use of that wand, plus spells. Ardents with the Life mantle have access to true psionic Healing, plus some other nifty powers he may find useful. One level of Ardent and Practiced Manifestor would get him 5 levels of healing power! |

Just a thought, hope it helps. um no, this isn't how i works at all... although once the sorceror gets limited wish he can cure... also if everyone were to find a way to tansform into constructs the sorceror could learn the repair spells, and those would work pretty well. |
| Nikeratos10-03-06, 09:23 AM | Your rogue gets lots of skill points at each level, so it's way easier for him to buy ranks in Use Magic Device. From then on, he can buy healing scrolls. I strongly recommend scrolls over potions. Potions can be drunk by anyone, but scrolls are much cheaper and of negligible weight. There is another option available: there's a feat in Complete Divine, called Arcane Disciple. This feat lets an arcane spellcaster obtain spells from one domain of his deity. If your sorceress worships a deity with the Healing domain, this feat adds the spells of that domain to her list of known spells. |
| Kyle_the_DM10-04-06, 12:48 PM | Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be sure to share them with my group. Kyle |

A gestalt is a lot more powerful, though not twice as powerful. |
| starfire31110-04-06, 01:44 PM | Er... no, that's definitely incorrect. A gestalt is a lot more powerful, though not twice as powerful. it is quite incorrect... gestalt sorc 2/pal 2 is much stronger than a pal 2 or a sorc 2. |
