I don't normally roleplay as non-PHB races (other than Sub-races) and when i do i tend to choose things like Bhukas (+0LA) i am trying to figure out how to make a level 1 Uldra Rogue (+1LA, so it's equal to a level 2) Is how do i do the 1 missing level... do i Merely make a level 1 rogue with all the racial traits of the Uldra? What about my Hp...6 is low for a level 2 equivalent rogue does anyone know of a Step by Step guide that is more detailed than the Savage Species Guide.
HCL 11-10-07, 10:20 AM	I think its explained at least in the DMG and maybe MM, there are some alternate rules somewhere for "LA buyoff" but tbh I just keep away from races with LA unless we are all playing with LA. Yeah so in a 2nd level campaign if you play an LA +1 you will have to start at first level (or if you were a 2nd level character you would be gaining exp as a 3rd level character). When you play a race with LA you are sacrificing hp and character levels for the racial traits. In general this makes LA races kind of lame unless they are totally broken like Goliath and Tauren, or you have some really juicy character concept. Ah, and if you are using a race with racial HD its Class levels + LA + racial hit dice.

Yes, but you are counted as a level 2 character. And think of it as trading then HP for some stat boosts/abilities. and if the loss of hP is still getting to you, Improved Toughness will help a bit.
