Help with monstrous humanoid PC [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-04-05, 10:58 AM I'm building a character for a new Eberron campaign. The DM's (yeah, we've got two guys who are going to try joint dm'ing each adventure....we'll see how that works out) have decided to go with 32 point buy, ECL 3 characters. I enjoy playing odd characters and would really like to play a tauric winged dog/halfling. According to the templates, this would be a 2 HD critter with an LA +2 for an ECL of 4. To get around this I came up with the following level progression to go from 3rd to 4th.

ECL 3
Small Monstrous Humanoid
HD 1d8
dex +8, con +4
BAB +1 (I think, couldn't find the BAB progression for monstrous humanoids)
+1 size bonus on att and ac
+1 natural armor
+2 racial bonus on Climb, Jump, Listen and Move Silently checks
+2 racial bonus on saves vs. fear
+1 racial bonus to saves
+1 racial bonus to thrown weapons and slings
Bonus Feats Alertness, Track
Base saves: Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +1
Speed 20

at 4th level the character would gain the following
+1d8 HP
dex +4, wis +2
Fly speed 40 (perfect)
BAB +? (not sure what the extra HD would give)

Basically, I'm applying the tauric template first, then waiting a level and applying the winged template. This would likely be explained by the wings needing time to fully mature and strengthen.
I haven't presented this to my dm's yet, so I don't know what they will say. I am curious to hear what you guys think. Do you think it's overpowered at all? Would you feel like this character had an unfair advantage if you were playing a 3rd level character in the same group?

09-04-05, 11:21 AM First of all, Tauric is +2, and Winged is +2. So you would have a 2 hd, +4 LA halfdogling. ECL 6.

Monstrous Humanoid hit dice grant full BAB and good reflex and will saves.

09-04-05, 11:27 AM Not disagreeing with you but where did you find the LA for tauric? Did I miss it in Savage Species? I checked for errata on it and didn't find any. I could easily have missed it, I built the character at 2 in the morning last night. Thanks

It says somewhere Base Humanoid +2

His dog half is the Winged form, thereby negating that +2 LA.

Kind of munchkiney. But he would have 2 racial HD and +2 LA RAW.

09-04-05, 01:54 PM Been looking through the books, faq's and errata again, still can't find a level adjustment for the tauric template. Question though, assuming a +2 LA on the tauric template, how would the winged template negate that? I'm not complaining, just curious how this works.
