| BattlemageLv5703-12-07, 07:13 PM | Ok I'm going to start a new character for the up coming session and I was planing on playing an Elf Sorcerer because elves gain proficancy with longswords to begin with and I know one of the feats I'll be takeing is Arcane Strike from Complete Warrior I was wondering what other feats I should take And also what spells should I start with for a fighting sorcerer now I understand that the Warmage does both melee and magic attack spells but I want my character to be able to do more than blast the enemy with just attack spells |
| DrakePD03-12-07, 07:28 PM | I am not familiar with the Complete Warrior Book. But at 1st level as a Elven Sorcerer you only get one feat. You will get another one at 3rd (I think Toughness or Improved Toughness) would be a good choice if you want to use your longsword in combat. |
| BattlemageLv5703-12-07, 08:20 PM | Thanks for the reply on the feats Do you have any Idea what should be my starting spells I think I'll go with sheild as my 1st level spell that I know but what should I get for my 0 level spells |
| Chalkboard_Sonata03-12-07, 08:36 PM | Try the duskblade from the PHBII if you are looking for a no-complications elven fighter/mage. They don't get all the levels of spells, but they do get full base attack bonus, at least proficiency with martial weapons, and some cool spell channeling effects. I guess they are more fighters than they are true mages. |
| SunTzuWarmaster03-12-07, 09:50 PM | If you want to fight, Duskblade has been recommended (and goes much better with your Arcane Strike feat) If you want to magic, Elven Wizard is usually the better choice for versatility. As a general rule, a scorching ray from the back lines is as good or better than an arcane strike from the front (especially when you factor in low hp/AC). |
| BattlemageLv5703-12-07, 09:58 PM | Chalkboard_Sonata Thanks but I don't have the PHBII I would like to know though if their are any feats that might enhance my fighting capabilitys as a Sorcerer I know that there is classes like the dread necrmancer and Warmage that use both melee attacks and magic but I'm wanting just a Sorcerer who spent his feats on combat realated feats while his main ability is magic so if there are any feats you can think of please post them here. |
| draco111903-12-07, 11:45 PM | Combat Casting Skill Focus (Concentration) Dodge Mobility Somatic Weaponry Retributive Strike Battlecaster Defense Battlecaster Offense With Dodg and Mobiltiy coming first. |
| Ace_of_time03-13-07, 12:36 AM | Are you going to muti class or stay true |
| Merryadocc03-13-07, 01:03 AM | If you are going to multi class there are alot of better ways to go about it, and there is an elf subrace that has sorcerer as it's favoured class, Wild Elves I believe (not to be confused with Wood Elves that have favored class ranger). If you want to be a good melee combat sorcerer play the Battle Sorcerer variant from Unearthed Arcana, d8 hitpoints a level, cleric base attack bonus, and you ignore the arcane spell failure from light armor, you do subtract one from all the values on the spells per day and spells known tables but not to a number less than one (it has some other class change as well). A level 7 battle sorcerer can also qualify easily for the Abjurant Chamion PRC, while a normal sorcerer cannot qualify till 10th level. Some food for thought. |
| kelvinaw27303-13-07, 11:10 AM | If you have Unearthed Arcana, try a look at the Battle Sorcerer in the back. For a fighting sorcerer, I would take a level in fighter or ranger to begin with - then I don't have to worry about weapon proficiency and my hit points and BAB get a decent boost. |
| Ace_of_time03-13-07, 12:03 PM | If your going to muti class than you should about taking practiced spellcaster feat. It let you add your muti-class levels to your caster levels of the spells you can cast up to +4. Think about taking Magic missle 1st as DM of a game I can tell you that this spell can work on things most other spell only get 50% to hit on. Also you can get buffing spells that raise dex and ac and don't forget one type of weapon each.(slashing, percing, blug) I would start with a reach weapon to keep your foes away when you need to cast + you 1.5 str on damage. |
| serow_#R03-13-07, 12:21 PM | Are you staying pure Sorc, or multiclassing? Typically Gish types tend to multiclass. You mentioned CW. Are you allowed to take more stuff from CW, or just Arcane Strike? If you are, try to take 1 level in Fighter and go for at least 1 level in Spellsword, the benefits are much. Improved Toughness is also very useful, especially since you want to get into the fray. |
| BattlemageLv5703-13-07, 06:14 PM | I wanted to stay a true sorcerer and just use my feats to increase my fighting capabilitys Like arcane strike allows me to add extra damage to my weapon and Improved toughness would help me last longer toe to toe with the enemy. I have the Tome of Battle and was thinking about taking the Martial Strike feat But I don't know which one I should get with that feat I was also thinking about maybe taking the Jade Phoenix class after I reach level 20 in sorcerer. any suggestions? |
| Thubby03-13-07, 06:38 PM | mirror image is your best friend. mage armor is a no brainer. blur, displacement, anything to aid in defense, as thats usualy a mage/warriors biggest problem. |
| BattlemageLv5703-14-07, 12:56 PM | Bump. |
| Sakaki2203-14-07, 04:38 PM | I recently decided I wanted to make an Elven battle sorceror myself, and instead of dabbling with non-core classes, I went straight core and just put the first level in Fighter. At level one I took Dodge and Mobility. I made the character for a campaign that will start at level 5. Light Mithral Shield, Light Mithral Chain, gave him Combat Casting. He has an arcane spell failure of 10%, which is laughingly low (and can be lowered to nonexistance with prestige classes), and no ACP, and 18 AC (without Dodge) with 30 HP is pretty darn good for a non-tank combatant. I rounded it off with some good self-buffing spells, and spells that lack somatic components. Or in the case of True Strike, both. Dash on a clever backstory and a hint of religion zealot to Corellon Larethian, and you have a character you could grow to like fast. |

Grab the twilight armor enhancement from complete divine and PHBII, its a +1 enhancement that reduces the armors ASF by 10%. |
| CBeyond03-14-07, 05:46 PM | I have the Tome of Battle and was thinking about taking the Martial Strike feat But I don't know which one I should get with that featI would avoid that if I were you. Most of the strikes in ToB do not scale up, so they will become useless as you reach higher levels. The ones that do scale are not available until you have other lower level maneuvers. Burning a feat for a low level strike would probably be a waste. However, picking up a stance or a counter is not so bad. There are several with no prerequisites that are useful at any level. |
