i love the idea of a druid
it seems to be a good mix of combat ability with spell casting and healing
so now ijust need some advice on how to play him
ive seen some problems which i have made a list about
and once again i seek expert advice here on this lovely board.
ok here goes

1. im constantly running back and forth trying to heal fellow party members
which often puts me into the path of attacks of opportunity. is this my doom

2. my wolf is an awesome helper for our combat. how can this be even more useful.

3. how do i roleplay better. im trying to make sure i follow the druid like patterns. treat my animal companions a certain way. behave a certain way?

4. what do i do if i find someone who speaks druidic but isnt a druid?

5. im going underground soon. i keep hearing DRUIDS SUCK UNDERGROUND...im not sure i agree but i need it explained. i knwo there are no plants but comeon theres got to be something useful

ok thats it for now
thanks for any help

Druids don't suck underground. My Druid did just fine underground.

The Druid is not the cleric!! Forget the healing!

Concentrate on spells that make you tougher in combat, such as stat boosting and the one that makes your claws magical when your able to wildshape. Also take feats that allow you to cast spells in your animal forms (Natural Spell) and use your summoning spells. They can be very helpful.

Also look at summoning enhancing feats, even though the pre-requisite is a total waste (Spell focus: Summoning/Conjuration.) There are a few spells you can actually get this benefit from, but not nearly as often as a wizard could with all the various conjuration spells they have. The +4 to summoned creature stats is a good benefit, generally it effectely gives +2 to hit and damage and gives 2 extra HP's per HD of the summoned Creatures.

Upgrade to Dire Lion as soon as you can, and use Dire Lion as your wildshape as soon as you can. Also a spider climbing Dire Lion in caves/caverns can be very effective.

I was also lucky to have a DM that allowed me to have the scent ability and other similiar abilities IF it was due to the creatures body form, and not some kind of magical effect.

1. Running back and forth to heal party members is simply a bad idea. If they are so bad in HP let them use a potion or something. Once you're fighting you'll be busy. You can heal them after the fight.

2. As you increase in level you can either let your wolf advance in HD or try to get a better animal companion. But for now remember that you can flank with your wolf, that he can use the aid another action to give you an attack bonus or a bonus to AC. Light barding (without AC penalty) can be worn by the wolf to boost its AC a litte.

3. I look a lot at nature when I'm playing a druid. This means a practical mindset. If a method works then its a good method. Respecting nature always works. So if your party sets up camp somewhere insist on a proper fire made from wood thats already dead. They can't go chop up healthy trees. Insist that if they travel offroad that you lead them so they won't step on fragile plants.

4. You won't but if you do detain him and take him to the nearest grove. If he resists bash his skull in and then bring him to the grove.
A druid teaching someone who isn't a druid druidic is one of the things other druids hate.

5. Really? The only thing that won't work is the spell cloudburst since you need to cast it in the open air.
Other then that you're still a wildshaping spellcasting bad motha.....

1. im constantly running back and forth trying to heal fellow party members
which often puts me into the path of attacks of opportunity. is this my doom Take the meta magic feat reach spell. This will allow you to throw cures to a range of 30ft. It ups there level by two, but whatever. Alternatively you can take the feat brew potion, and then destribute pures of cure amounst the party tanks. They can then be in charge of their own healing. I also highly recomend picking, up making a wand of cure, thus allowing you to use your druid spells for other things.

2. my wolf is an awesome helper for our combat. how can this be even more useful. Buff it. You can cast any spell with the range of "you" on your wolf. I recomend using bulls strength, and magic fang. Barkskin never hurt either. Also with share spells, when you are within 5 feet of it, you can your spells that you cast on you effect it as well. If your gonna cure yourself, or it, you may as well try and do it when its within 5ft of you, that way you can double dip the spell. The same can be said if you are planning on wild shaping, and then charging in with your wolf.

Another option is to give it help. Use your summons to summon more creaurres into the frey. That way instead of one tripping wolf, the enemy now has many.

3. how do i roleplay better. im trying to make sure i follow the druid like patterns. treat my animal companions a certain way. behave a certain way?
This is kinda like asking, "How do i use my left hand?" Just close your eyes and envision who your carector is, and play that. Treat your animal companion like the best friend it is. Behave in the way you think, someone who is completely devouted to nature would behave.

4. what do i do if i find someone who speaks druidic but isnt a druid?
Tell your DM to review page 35 of the PHB. The only way for some who is not a druid to know druidic is for them to be an Ex-druid. If that is the case then you must asses them, and decide if they will atone, and go back to the druidic ways. If not, them the trators death they so richly deserve. Again it is like asking, "If I'm a paladin, and i encounter a black gruad what should I do?"

5. im going underground soon. i keep hearing DRUIDS SUCK UNDERGROUND...im not sure i agree but i need it explained. i knwo there are no plants but comeon theres got to be something useful
Same thing you do above ground. Buff/ heal the party. When things get sticky call in the calvery. You may also find it useful to filmiarise yourself with an animal that has a borrowing speed. You will also find spells like flaming sphere useful as well.

1. You might want to invest some skill in tumble.
2. Buff it, and if your DM allows it get it barding. Give an explination of "well it's not fair just to get myself protection."
3. Break a clliche about druids to stand out, like being fine with cities or abberations, make like a real person.
4. Find out where they learned it from.
5. The only way druids can suck underground are if you use outside only spells or if their companion is too big to fit, or can't climb.

I love the druids so follow this.

Druids are not really good in healings so follow what the others have said. And if you really want to heal (like my druid do) buy parchmints of healing, they are a really good investissment for a druid. Or you can put ranks in alchemy and create potions (my druid is doing this too)

Assuming that you're playing 3.5 d&d version, choose a wooden weapon, or , like mines do, create a wooden scimitar and keep it until you can use Iron Wood spell. Then use the 3rd level spell : Spikes. It add 2 damage points per druid level (maximum of 20) and take the Keen effect on it. You then have a weapon that do at least 1d6+20 (if you are level 10 druid) with critical range from 15 to 20 / x2.

For the remaining, use summoning and other cool spells.

*Keep your animal forms to escape combat if danger by taking the shape of a bird or something.
