| white_daemon11-12-07, 04:43 PM | I don't usually powergame, so this role is rather unfamiliar to me. I am making a minotaur character in a friend's campaign. I'm going to prestige class him into Hulking Hurler. This isn't an epic campaign or anything yet, this is only an 8th-level campaign. Anyway, I'm wondering what would happen were one to use enemies as weapons. I don't believe they count as truly being used as projectiles, but what the hey-- they pretty much fit the description. Chances are, though, a thrown enemy would take the damage that the one he's being thrown at would recieve, as well. If anyone can clarify this issue for me, that would really help a lot. I'm also wondering if there are any cool tricks you can do with grapple. Can you pick an enemy up and bash him against a wall until he dies, as long as you maintain grapple? Can you hold him (while rolling to maintain grapple, of course) while a friend stabs/beats/casts the crap out of him? Can you pick an enemy up and throw him off a cliff? If anyone can get rulings for these circumstances, I'd be very grateful. New suggestions for cool, checked and legal tricks are also welcome. |

I'm pretty sure there are 'Toss Friend' and 'Toss Enemy' Feats available. I forget the exact names, in Races of Stone I think? I'd say bashing an enemies head is just flavor text for winning your grapple check and doing unarmed damage. There are rules for pinning your enemies (hold him while your friends stab him, put a bag on his head, tie his hands, etc). Throw him off a cliff? Find that 'Toss Enemy' Feat. Most importantly, read the grapple rules. Several times. Play it through a couple times by yourself, they're a little confusing at first. |
| thaylok11-12-07, 05:14 PM | I believe there is a Throw Anything feat. don't remember if it includes living creatures. (to get around the -4 non-proficient penalty) But bear in mind.. a creature you want to throw may try to grapple you to keep from being hurled. I know I would!! Get monkey grip and wield a paladin or a cleric (works best if they are wearing spiked breastplates);) |

| Cartigan11-12-07, 06:01 PM | Well Hulking Hurlers can throw anything then I know there is a feat to throw allies - it gives them some charge bonuses or something. I think there is one for enemies too. |
| white_daemon11-12-07, 06:23 PM | hmm. I don't have that Races of Stone book or whatever, but it sounds interesting. Throwing an enemy, however, is probably something my character could do without that feat, but it would require rolls, attacks of opportunity, etc. I have seen the "throw anything" feat, it pales in comparison to the "really throw anything" special ability gained by Hulking Hurlers. If anyone can find "Throw Enemy" feat or something like it, could you please post its effects and requirements? |
| Mock2611-12-07, 06:39 PM | I believe there is a Throw Anything feat. don't remember if it includes living creatures. (to get around the -4 non-proficient penalty) I actually once created a force of elite spear goblins (inspired by Pwent the dwarf). Each team of elite spear goblins was made up of a ogre and 5 goblins. Each goblin wore a very stiff suit of leather armor and wore a helmet with a 4' spike on it. There was a handle attached to the front of the goblin's armor and each goblin was trained to remain stiff as a board (of which the armor helped). The ogre would pick up a goblin and throw it at its target. Each gobline spear did the damage of a spear plus bonuses for being thrown by the ogre and each goblin took 1d6 points of damage. (The helmet is padded quite well!) Of course, only the strongest of goblins survive the training program. I primarily included this for comic relief, but against low-mid level groups it can make for an interesting encounter. |

In my above post I simply created a new proficiency (this was in a 2nd edition campaign) called Goblin Hurling. In the realm of 3.x you could just create a Goblin Hurling Feat if you didn't have access to the Throw Anything Feat or the Hulking Hurler crap. |
| white_daemon11-12-07, 07:33 PM | I do believe I mentioned this was not my campaign. That is also the reason I posted this here and not on the "What's a DM to do?" board. I can't make feats, I need someone to find the book with it. Our DM allows pretty much anything from the books in his campaign, but I have minimal influence on him (because of circumstance) and doubt I could get him to allow a created feat. So my plea from earlier stands: does anyone have Races of Stone? |

Our DM allows pretty much anything from the books in his campaign, but I have minimal influence on him (because of circumstance) and doubt I could get him to allow a created feat. So my plea from earlier stands: does anyone have Races of Stone? Talk to your DM and see if he'll let you create the feat. There is nothing to prevent you from suggesting new skills and/or feats (or anything else for that matter) to the DM. Sure, he doesn't have to accept it but you've got nothing to lose if you were to suggest it. So, I suggest that you write up a new feat and submit it to the DM. You never know, he might just allow it! |
| Wih11-12-07, 07:54 PM | Savage Species also has a feat for throwing around people - though unforntunately, I don't have it or Races of Stone on me. |
| Legdiwena11-12-07, 09:12 PM | Give enemy an AoO and if he hits you can't throw him? |
| Skysoar11-13-07, 04:04 AM | D20 future has a feat called Mecha Fling that lets you pick people up and throw them around. The original page is 171 if anyone is interested. Altered to fit DnD, it would probably read something like this: Fling Prerequisites: Large size or larger, Improved Grapple Benefit: You can make a grapple check at a -20 penalty against an opponent at least 2 size categories smaller than you. If this grapple check succeeds, you may then use an attack action to fling the held enemy on your next action. The range increment for the thrown foe is 10 feet, and the maximum range is 100 feet. A creature may be thrown horizontally or vertically. If thrown vertically, the creature takes the appropriate falling damage. If thrown horizontally, the creature takes damage as though it had fallen half the distance thrown plus you may add your Strength modifier to the damage. For instance, if a creature is thrown 70 feet horizontally, it takes 2d6 damage + your Strength bonus. You may also fling your opponent at another creature. Make a ranged attack roll with a -4 penalty. If you hit, both the creature thrown and the target take the amount of damage the thrown creature would otherwise receive, as given above. If a flung creature travels both horizontally or vertically, for instance is thrown off a cliff, it receives only the greater of the two damage ratings. For instance, if a creature is thrown vertically for 50 feet and falls from a 100-foot height, the creature receives 10d6 damage. I, of course, altered the prerequisites to fit DnD as well. The smallest mecha are Large, so it makes sense that this feat has Large size as a prereq as well. In addition, the original feat also required the feat Mecha Operation; for balance issues, I had to add a feat as a prereq for this one as well, and Improved Grapple seemed to fit the bill nicely. I think I've seen an 'official' feat that lets you do this in Savage Species or similar as well, though I can't remember the exact wording right now. |
| FearTheBat11-13-07, 06:36 AM | The feat you are looking for is Fling Enemy, and it is in Savage Species, on page 34. I'm not sure if posting the text would violate the copyright stuff for these boards, so suffice it to say that skysoar's version is pretty close, and I personally like it better. *If I can post the text, could someone let me know, or do it themselves? That would be great, since I would like to know, and I'm sure the OP would like to see it. |
| white_daemon11-13-07, 03:55 PM | nvm anyway. I got the feat from a friend. Thanks for the help, though. |
