| dreamflight1702-16-07, 12:40 PM | I wanted to launch this thread in the character optimization boards before I realized that those boards mostly comprise characters that are so incredibly cheesed and poorly interpreted as to be unfeasible. I've got a simple build, with two obvious options and I don't know which to use. The idea is to make use of the Lion's Charge spell (Druid 3) while power attacking with two rapiers. The basic dilemma I face is damage output vs. accuracy; should I be a rogue or a fighter? How many levels of Druid are too many? Any advice is welcome. |
| skywyze02-16-07, 12:50 PM | If you go with the Shock Trooper tactical feat from Complete Warrior, you can power attack by sacrificing AC instead of accuracy, so long as you power attack for at least 5 points. Seems well worth it to me, since accuracy is a lot harder to gain than armor. Also, 16 levels is "enough" druid levels, since they've gotten their most critical class features by then. I'd recomment 17 though, just so you get 9th level spells. It all depends on how you want your character to be - more spellcaster, shapeshifter or combatant? |
| Ruslanchik02-16-07, 01:04 PM | Basically, if you go with rogue you're sacrificing BAB for sneak attack damage. It doesn't sound like this build would be good for sneak attack. The problems of fighter at well known. If you're considering taking more than two levels, why not go with ranger or barb? With ranger you can go with two-weapon combat. Also, look at Complete Divine. There's a feat that allows you to use a wilshape use to perform a full attack after a charge. Is this spell the only reason for taking druid? Do you have RP reason's for doing this? Isn't there another way to get a full attack after a charge in a character class that has full BAB? |

Get yourself a solid animal companion that can stand its ground and provide you flanking while you retreat and pounce again the following rounds... |
| dreamflight1702-20-07, 12:28 PM | Everyone's trying to help, thanks. Now for clarification. Yes, statistically, the lion's charge spell is the only reason I'm taking druid levels, so I was thinking 7 levels at most. I realize there are more efficient methods of pouncing but my DM is really picky about what he allows. I figured this technique was a safe bet. I like the idea of using rapiers instead of wildshaping into a leopard because I can garner more attacks with the twoweapon fighting feats. Furthermore, I've heard rumors that wildshape was severly nerfed recently, and that NONE of your equipment transfers anymore unless it specifically says so. I will definitely look into the shock trooper feat, but the biggest drawback to this build is defense. I charge into flanking with my animal companion and dish out massive damage. Unless I slay mt opponent in that initial thrust, I've dropped most of my guard already. Finally, I'm avoiding ranger because the ranger doesn't get Lion's Charge until 16th, and while it would be a sound build, I don't have that kind of patience. |
