Help with the character of a character [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-25-06, 02:31 PM I need help in finding the right character for my character. We have just started yesterday but I cant seem to find how to roleplay an amnesiaic monk obsesed with shadows and darkness (LN). Does anyone here has any tips I could use or any literature or movie character that I could base my roleplaying into?

01-25-06, 02:34 PM Obsession's got to spring from something. Give him a partial (maybe warped or false) memory to explain it, and work from there.

01-25-06, 02:40 PM He is obssesed with it because he has been having strange dreams in which he is living in peace in the eternal darkness around him but a bright light sends him forth into an existence of pain and suffering and all that is wrong with the world, his monkhood is his way to achieve the peace he thinks he remembers (its not a sure thing he actually sprung from the darkness -the shadow rift from ravenloft- but he surely believes so). But its the monk part, the Lawful Neutral part that I have problems with.

01-25-06, 02:57 PM Why not create a code of conduct for your character? You've got more freedom to customize it than a paladin would, since it's not actually a necessary class feature, and it can make the strict discipline of the LN monk more visible if there's a particular set of rules he lives by and doesn't deviate from.

I did this for a LN monk of my own once and it worked pretty well, I'm not just coming up with this off the top of my head.
