| Mike The Slayer04-29-05, 03:06 AM | Here's a list of things that you may or may not have thought of doing. Cast the spell Sheild on yourself along with Invisibility Sphere, On the Barbarian cast Enlarge, Mage Armor talk to your DM for His/Her rules on this spell.Ask your Cleric to cast these on your Barbarain, Magic Circle Againt Evil Prayer. Then for his good Spirtual Weapon. If the bad guys are hiting you with elemental damage cast Resist Elements, my last thought for now have the Cleric Summon Monster 3 Celestail Bear, Black To take some damage. Sorry for type o's. This is only my thoughts so listen to others also. |
| Sildatorak04-29-05, 03:17 AM | I recommend hitting it with melph's acid arrow. Illithids don't have a lot of hp so damaging it is good, and since it is continuing damage, you'll force concentration checks for it to use any of its spell-like/psi-like abilities. I can't remember if the mind blast is (Sp) or (Su), though. |
| Draco Strang04-29-05, 04:10 AM | Anything that deals out raw, un-escapable damage is recommended. Magic Missile is a good one. You as a 5th level caster should be dishing out 3d4+3 damage with it. Whatever spells don't allow a saving throw are the ones you wanna use against it. Use spells that drain it's ability scores, specifically Touch of Idiocy. No saving throw, and it drops Int, Wis, and Cha by 1d6. It is a touch spell, so you'll have to get close to use it. Try and flank for that +2 to hit, and have someone use the Aid Another action to give you an additional +2. For this to work, you NEED to hit the damn thing. I'd recommend using Truestrike, but it'd be over before you could cast Touch of Idiocy and make an attack with it. Wishful thinking on my part, eh? If you can get your hands on scrolls, try and get a Spectral Hand scroll to deliver that touch attack for you. Anything that gives Constitution drain (poison, some spells) will help, as they'll both flush his Fort save down the toilet and sap some of his hitpoints. If he's evil, get that paladin smiting, and use your rogue to get in close and flank, thus giving you the sneak attack damage that you can so desperately use. Have your cleric buff, and your scout pitch in with ranged. I forget, does he use minions in the final fight? Been a while since I ran that module. |
| fallabel04-29-05, 07:22 AM | I ran this module once also. Assuming his DM hasn't changed anything, the Baron should be fighting as well. |
| Draco Strang04-29-05, 10:39 AM | I ran this module once also. Assuming his DM hasn't changed anything, the Baron should be fighting as well. I don't have access to my modules right now, but isn't there a way to break him of the illithid's control, besides killing it? That'd knock him out of the fight right quick. |

| Draco Strang04-29-05, 12:11 PM | 1) Learn to proofread. 2) Run. 3. Try to add something of value to a response. :rolleye2: The rest of us were able to extrapolate the gist of what he wrote out of that text. I will admit, it's a bit clunky and poorly written, but maybe english isn't his 1st language, or could he possibly only be about 12? |
| Flamberge04-29-05, 01:03 PM | Okay, maybe I can help. Although I'm not familiar with the particular campaign you're in, I am playing a ranger/rogue with aberrations as a favored enemy, who's a specialist in fighting mind flayers. (If that's even possible; I'm not sure, really!) He's in an Eberron campaign with expanded psionics, so the Illithids we've met have been extra nasty--they keep plane shifting before we can kill them. Or something like that. Bloody annoying, but here's what we've got so far. This advice is for your party in general, rather than for your character alone, as my group has found it takes all of us to fight even one mind flayer! Spells: With regards to Monster summoning: Illithids don't like monsters with poison, because their fortitude saves aren't so good. Centipedes, spiders, etc, are good choices. Invisibility sphere might not hide you from an Illithid (they use telepathy/detect thoughts) but it should work against most of their minions, if any. Feats: if you have to melee with Illithids, get the Close Quarters Fighting feat from Complete Warrior. This is a must! Your PC's are at 5th level, so someone needs to get this feat when they reach 6th level. Improved Grapple helps too. Grab a tentacle and hang on: an Illithid needs all four tentacles free to eat your brains. Also, any feat that improves resistance to mental attacks is recommended. Lords of Madness has the Quick Recovery feat: it grants a new save each round against any stunning or dazing attack, which counts as a move action. Skills: Escape artist is your friend! Maximize this skill to minimize the odds of an Illithid grabbing your head. When combined with the Close Quarters Fighting feat, this makes a character nearly impossible to grab. (Like mine.) That all I can think of for now. If anything above is mistaken, corrections are welcome. Good hunting. F. |
