I have been thinking about which class I should pick, and I have narrowed it down to Rogue and Sorcerer. I am going to pick both of them, but one of them are going to be my alternative, and one my main character. Anyone have a idea about which one is more fun to roleplay as, and combat, too? This is what I like:

I like attacking from a far distance, but I like to have a good amount to do it, so I want to do it many times. I want to know special abilites, but skills, too. I also want to aid things, not be in the middle of it. I also like to be a part of a team, not an outcast. I like to play as a lawful or a neutral person, never evil. Which one should I pick? If I sound like a different person, then, please tell me. Thanks.

Pick what you want to play ;)

. I like to play as a lawful or a neutral person, never evil.

having said that, a rogue would be more choatic than lawful....

what is your other party's make up? You like spells or sharp pointy objects that make people bleed?

SORCEROR, you can blast thing apart with fire ball and that hand magic missle from far away and take a few cross class skil if you really want them that bad. Id play a sorceror with general feats that can use a sword, basiclly a mobile artillery platform. Rouges are sneak any way, but everybody likes a Sorceror.

Start with rogue to get all the skill points.

Then pick up level of sorcerer.

When you get to 3rd level, decide which method of play you prefered, the more roguish or more sorcerous. And then carry on.

I like attacking from a far distance, but I like to have a good amount to do it, so I want to do it many times.

Tricky one. Rogues get a few nice weapon proficiencies in ranged weapons, while at 1st level sorcerers are limited to a few cantrips and two level 1 spells. With a high enough charisma, though, you can cast those spells a significant number of times per day. Also, bear in mind that rogues can't sneak attack with a ranged weapon beyond 30 feet.

I want to know special abilites, but skills, too.

Rogue would be the choice here then. They get a few nice special abilities, like improved evasion and trapsense, AND they get an inhuman number of skills. With a sorcerer you'll need to pick your spells carefully to ensure the versatility you're looking for, and for a while you'll be limited to 1 or 2 spells.

I also want to aid things, not be in the middle of it. I also like to be a part of a team, not an outcast.

Sorcerers and rogues can be equally good team players. Rogues will probably get into the middle of combat more often than sorcerers but it depends how you play them.

I like to play as a lawful or a neutral person, never evil.
Well, there's a slight tendency for both rogues and sorcerers to be chaotic, and sometimes rogues end up evil from all the thieving and stuff. You don't have to be evil or chaotic though; this is more up to you than the class itself.

Overall, I think you'd be happiest playing a rogue with sorcery as a secondary thing. I would STRONGLY reccomend looking into the Arcane Trickster prestige class in the Dungeon Master's Guide (also on the SRD), as this appears to be precisely the kind of thing you're looking for.

I vote for Sorceror.

hmmm not to rain on your rogue vs sorcerer struggles....but you might want to give the ranger a second look. if you take the ranged combat style path you will be doing lots of damage from far away with no per day limits, you get plenty of skills (not as many as the rogue, but still plenty) and unless you want to play that way, your not likly to be an outcast (unless your party LIKES to be lost in the wilderness)

But if that's just not your cup of tea, just Multi-class rogue/sorcerer and get a Mithril shirt for 0% spell failure chance. :ayyyy!:

mmh..

Rogue: sneak attack, more hp, LOTS of skills, light armor, simple weapons + a few more, many special abilities like evasion, trapsense ect

Sorceror: Magic user that cast more spells per day, does not have to "pick" the spell in the morning, low hp, no armor, no special ability except for familiar, few weapons, low skills..

I would go rogue, because personally, a multiclassed rogue/sorc would be good only for the utility spells like mage hand, ghost sound, invisibility ect and maybe the familiar. The utility spells can be used by a rogue with a good Use magic device skill anyway, or the right magic item. You can have a lot more skills that are all usefull, especially those skill about search, disable trap, open lock, move silently, hide, bluff spot ect ect. Much more versatile in my opinion because of the many skills he can have and his survivability (improved evasion, imp uncanny dodge) but lack the firepower of the sorceror in higher levels.

Like the other one said... Ranger can be a good choice, and maybe Bard too, i dont like the bard concept of "music stuff" but they are very good in support.

I'd try to do both well:

For example, start with rogue1, then 5 levels of sorcerer, and then try to get into the Daggerspell Mage prestige class [Complete Adventurer]. Of course, Arcane Trickster is also a decent choice.

With the Able Learner feat (and a decent INT) you could keep your rougish skills up while essentially being an almost fully progressing sorcerer.

As for the fun, rogues are very fun to play throughout the levels, at least IMHO. Usually useful in social situations, combat (sneak attack), traps/chest, etc. I particularly like the tactical aspect of sneak attack (how to manage to make it apply). In general, I enjoy playing high-skill characters.

Sorcerers are very fun after the first few levels, but a bit of a pain in the beginning (i'd say until level 4 or so). They are good in all sorts of situations, even combat (not particularly in melee, though ;) ). I suggest trying to play a non-blaster - has much more to offer AFAIC.

Like others suggested, why not do both? Be a Lawful Neutral Rogue/Sorcerer.
