I'm fairly new to the 3.5 system after playing 1st/2nd ed for many years. After crashing on being a mounted Talenta Halfling (in a new Eberron campaign), I thought I would share some various info's while making my new character and for those thinking about doing it. I'm not going "Supermount" route (http://boards1.wizards.com/printthread.php?t=382372) but it's a cool way to buff your mount... using the Devoted Tracker feat in Complete Warrior. There are many examples of using it in the link I listed. Speaking of mounts... MageBred "Animals" e.g. Clawfoot on pg 295 from Eb Camp Setting is a great way to have a survivable mount at the lower 1-6 levels. I'm gonna buy 2 or three and train them stay out of "Fireball" area of effect range. With Handle Animal and a Clawfoot's +12 Hide Skill +10 Survival makes that a fairly simple thing to do. Even when my Halfling paladin get's his mount... I'll still have 1 or 2 lurking about in case my holy mount get's waxed. Talenta Warrior Feat on pg 112 - Races of Eb seems to be an almost "no brainer". Allows you to apply a feat among multiple weapons "3 for 1" kinda deal. It also provides a badly needed +1 dam to each weapon. You can also apply your action point to your damage. Very effective damage when doing a Spirited Charge (x2 "sword" damage). Considering your a medium sized creature in almost any "dungeon type" setting... you can charge regurally in combat. Speaking of which... look into Cavalier PrC class (allows Pally mount stacking) in Complete Warrior if your looking for a "down and dirty" Halfling Fighter type. CAV PrC allows x3 melee damage w/Talenta weapons (Tangat: 2 handed wep 1d8 crits 18-20) Eventually you can get x4 melee damage with it. Of course Halfling Outrider (allows Pally mount stacking) from Complete Warrior is great if focusing on a missile weapon type character. I'm going for HO-3 for the Special Charge ability of bypassing obstacles/allies when charging with my Tangat. Wild Plains rider - PrC is good too I dont pretend to be an expert with this but this is just some info that took me some weeks to sort out. I'm welcome for any other info people can share too.
