Saturday is D(and D) Day. My first game is approaching and I feel that I am ready as I can be. I have scoured the PHB and this message board in search of any tidbits of D & D knowledge I could find. I feel that I am ready to go and wreak some havoc (either in or out of character, depending on how it goes). Thanks for all of the help you have provided, I will provide an update, hopefully with heroic conquests, most likely with comedic demises.

I just thought of something, what is something that I could do to make a splash, something that a noob shouldn't do or know? I am playing a first level ranger, any ideas?

Dont make it a ChaoticGood drow. If you do, I will have to find you and kill you.

Other than that, just have fun.

Hmmm, I play a 1st level Ranger with 6 Charisma and extreme depression... I would advice it only if you like Eeyore.

Don't be the "I'M A PROTECTOR OF THE WOODS!!! FRIEND TO ALL ANIMALS!" I have too many unrequited horror stories about such things.

You are a ranger, helpful in many situations. Prepare to kick donkey and take names!!! No, seriously, if you can ask your enemies for there names, write them down, and you'll begin a list of names of all of whom you have defeated!

Or at least a list of those whom you have to get back at.

Don't go into a bar and ask if your drunk yet, or if they are any pretty girls there cause you wanna do them.

Have fun - and I hope your PC doesn't get killed!

Really get into character - try some 'acting', revel in the imaginative social interactions with NPC's

Fight smart - don't just run at the nearest orc and try to hit him: re-read the PHB sections on tumbling, intimidate, ranged attacks, concealment, tripping and being flat-footed. You won't make use of this lot (probably) but BE AWARE.

Beware traps - they can be lethal at 1st level. Send the party Rogue up-ahead and tap, listen, prod and use a ten-foot pole if necessary!

Happy Gaming!

If you're playing the stereotypical dexy-Archer Ranger, go halfling! They get a dex bonus, and how many halfling rangers have YOU ever seen?
(If ANYONE brings up Order of the Stick, I would like to point out he uses two swords)
