Why, I have no idea ... it's not like his 12th level adventures are really challenging the 12th level characters ... but I digress. Anyways, at 12th level, I have a character with 8 total spellcasting levels for wizard (Wiz 5+Eldritch Knight 3). How many spells, above and beyond the starting spells + 2 spells per level is probably typical for an 8th level wizard's spellbook? |
| Revelation05-18-04, 07:28 AM | You will get those basic spells for free, any spells after that you'll have to pay for from whatever starting cash you have. depending on how you do that you'll either just have to pay the costs of writing it in the spellbook, 100gp/page, or the cost of buying a scroll and writing it in. Most DM's I know charge 100gp per page, therefore 100gpxspell level. These will count against your starting wealth |
| tarkin05-18-04, 11:22 AM | I personally do it as follows: 1) Recommend that high level players pay for a Boccob's Blessed book. 2) If they do not, charge them 110 gp per level (10/level gp is a fee to examine the spell from a library at a guild - cheaper than buying the scroll) If they did then charge them only 10 gp per level, Boccob's book lets you write the spells in for free (well for the cost of buying the book). 3) They can not have learned any additional spells in their higest leve if they just learned that level. 4) They must know progressively more "extra" spells of lower levels. I.E. If they learn 4 extra 5th level spells, they must know at least 5 extra 4th level spells, and at least 6 exta 3rd level, etc. etc. etc. Once they know more than 20 spells at a level, this restraint no longer applies to spells of lower level. |
