My friend will be playing a dwarven wizard modeled to take the Runesmith prestige class in the Races of Stone. I want to play a paladin, but since the whole reason that this campaign was put together was to enable two very experienced players to play ... unhindered, if you will, by unexperienced players, I want to play something that is a bit left of center. Hence the hobgoblin paladin. I think it would create a good amount of roleplaying oppurtunity between our two characters as dwarves are supposed to hate goblinoids and vice versa. What I want to know is if it's a good idea. What does everyone think of the idea of a hobgoblin paladin? Conversely, I was thinking of playing a goliath paladin (also from Races of Stone). I think that that character would also be very interesting to play. Any suggestions? And please, keep comments limited to roleplaying and not powergaming. |

I say that a hobgoblin paladin has the advantage for an interesting backstory and roleplaying opportunity, and a goliath paladin would likely be a more powerful character. |

That said, it would probably be more of a leap for the goliath to be a paladin rather than the hobgoblin. Hobs are already focused and lawful, but goliaths tend towards chaotic alignments and don't fit the heavy armor and shining steed stereotype of the paladin. |
