| Rannos Firefist05-22-05, 11:45 PM | what do u think of my Character? str-30 dex-22 con-26 int-18 wis-9 cha-31 im a half dwarf hald gold dragon who is 10 ft tall. level 23 sor11/dragon deciple10/ftr2 HP-273 AC 31 i have a psuedodragon familiar named arrow tail and i am workign on befrending a dragon to be my mount. ( that will be sick) so what do u think i think i did a great job with this character (started at LVL 1) |
| braindead34505-23-05, 12:23 AM | Your stats are impressive, too impressive for my tastes; but that's just me. To truly judge, I'd need to see your feats, skills and your backstory. How did you get stuck with only a 9 Wisdom and why didn't you improve it? |
| Edymnion05-23-05, 01:28 AM | Sorry, I'm gonna have to say not, because I don't see a character in your post. I see a couple of stats, but there is nothing there I would call a character. I don't see a name, a personality, background, his favorite color... All I see is some math. And not to be mean, but even the math doesn't look very good. An epic level character that is mechanically the same as a character 10 levels below it? Sorry man, but fighting Epic level monsters with a Sorcerer 11/Fighter 2 and an LA +3 template is just going to be suicidal... And yes, aside from the hitpoint and BAB boost from those 10 levels, you essentially wasted 7 of them because of the fact that everything the DD is about is summed up just as well in an LA +3 template. No character information (hence no flavor) to justify the weak mechanics, I'm really going to have to say "Not". Sorry dude :( |
| Draco Strang05-23-05, 01:45 AM | It looks like you sort of built the character to be uber-powerful, but didn't quite think it through. Why take DD if you're already a half-dragon? Besides the fact that the stock DD from the DMG needs a little tweaking anyway, as it's not that great a PrC to begin with. What did you have in mind while doing this guy? What's he good at, what's he bad at? Besides Will Saves, I mean. He's probably really bad at Will saves. |
| Shaken, not Stunned05-23-05, 02:01 PM | On the CO boards, there is a gnom illusionist who can cast illusions which are 140% real. There is a hulking hurler capable of dealing multiple millions of damage over there, too. No one introduced them as characters. They are referred to as builds, because they have no flavor. No personality. No one knows what color their hair is or what they want out of life. They are just numbers and words. You have posted the stats of a build from everyone elses perspective. Maybe he is a character, maybe he is not. The point is we can't even see the build. Hell, I don't even know his name. How can he be a character of he doesn't have name, or at least a title, by level 23? |
| Kintaran05-23-05, 02:25 PM | I hereby arbitrarily dub him, "Bob the Fighter." Bob here is merely a collection of abstract numbers that, incidentally, are far from optimized. I admit, showing off a couple of huge numbers does sate the ego, such as Corran, my 3.0 psion with a natural 40 Con (60th level, and killed by a 31st level bard in combat for story reasons) . See, even I am not immune to the occasional burst of misplaced egotism. At least Corran had a personality. Since Bob here possesses no listed personality, nor any discernable optimization build, I assume he is merely one of these egotistical surges. With a bad Will save. |
| SnowbearK05-23-05, 02:32 PM | what do u think of my Character? blahblahblahfartblahblahblah  Want someone to stroke your ego? Get a toady. |
| Draco Strang05-23-05, 02:57 PM | blahblahblahfartblahblahblah  I just wanted to tactfully point out that "fart" SnowbearK slipped into his blah blah stream. I didn't catch it until the second time around, so carefully disguised it was. |
| darkness ninja of light05-23-05, 03:23 PM | I agree pretty much with everyone here, but about the half-dragon and Dragon Disciple thing- doesn't it say that at level 10 you effectively pick up the half-dragon template? Perhaps he's calling the character a half dragon simply because he's reached level 10 of the template. Thus it's not LA+3. If not then well....eeew. |
| eudas05-23-05, 03:25 PM | 1. your stats are obscene, and not in a "wow cool!" way, but in a "*rolls eyes*" way. 2. i think you really went overboard with the dragon thing. 3. epic characters are just silly. why did you even bother asking? eudas |
| Piff05-23-05, 09:58 PM | Yeah I just want to say one thing about that.... half dwarf and half dragon.... how in the world could this of happened. Im just saying. A gold dragon and a dwarf mating just seems too wrong for me and a little impossiable because i just dont think something like that could happen. But then agian its just me. Make fun of me if you want im just saying that just sounds very weird to me. |
| Rannos Firefist05-23-05, 11:39 PM | i would like to apolgize. my friends "bob the fighter" is actualy Brottor Fire fist son of Ranoos Firefist. now to answer your questions. 1.)upon reaching lvl 10 in dd i gained the half dragon template 2.)he has blond hair and brown eyes, his hair is constantly messed up because of a lack of care. he is 44 years old and extreamly hot headed. He founded the Hammers of Dellrock an orginization in honor of Struther Dellrock and dwarven cleric who sacrificed himself for my party. Brottor is the 8th of 12 champions of the white mavens choosen to fight the 8th of 12 of the black mavens. in comabt he uses a +5 blessed longspear and enhances himself an dhis part with spells such as haste, mirror image, and mage armor. 3.)my wisdom is low because i dont use it a lot. 15 will save 17 against spells and i have a SR of 21 (mantle of spell resistance). 4.)Brottor's hot headedness leads him into battle right off flaming the enemy then attacking with his spear. luckly most of what he is fighting is evil so crits pass and no damage reduction (blessed wepon). 5.) he first learned that he could cast spells whas when he was eating with his father and he cated the spell detect poison subconciouly. he discovered that his fathers meat was poisoned and told him to stop. when his father did not heed him he reaced out to grab the meat and casted ray of frost. His father a ftr5/wizard10/spell swored 4 was astonded and hurried him off to a school that could help him develop his abilitys. sorry again when i posted this yesterday it was late and i had to get off. hope that cleared up some misconceptions. |
| Encard05-24-05, 12:07 AM | That is better, although more background would be nice, as would more of your build - after all, by this point your stats and level tell us very little about the character itself. Frankly, I'm not too impressed with the bits of the character you posted - stats are nice, but he's an epic character with DD levels, so it's not too surprising. The level distribution doesn't seem that great, though - sorcerer + DD isn't usually a great way to go in terms of power, I'd say. Still, if you enjoy playing the character, that doesn't matter much. |
| Lord of the Underdark05-24-05, 12:32 AM | So, how about them Spot checks....or better yet, Sense Motive... The idea behind the character is there. The mechanics of making it a reality, therein lies the flaw. I like the bits of Fluff but by 23rd lvl you should have alot more than that...and I would definitely exploit your low wisdom, as a DM. But, other than that, looks good. P.S. Aren't you taking nasty XP penalties for the 2 levels of fighter? |
| Sargon05-24-05, 12:44 AM | My Sorcereror learned he could cast spells when he stoped his father from beating his mom.. He grabbed a nearby vase and hurled it with all of his anger at his father.. The vase burst on his father eruppting in a fire explosion.. His father was consumed by fire but in his frenzy trip and pulled the Mother down too pinning her under him... My sorcerer learned of his ability by murdering his parents... he's hardcore.. you don't want to met him.. Sorry i just like telling that story. |
| SnowbearK05-24-05, 12:59 AM | P.S. Aren't you taking nasty XP penalties for the 2 levels of fighter? Favored Class: Fighter |
| moustache guy05-24-05, 01:49 AM | It is hard to criticize the character without seeing a complete build, background, story, and appearance description. But I'll work with what we were given most recently... 2.) ...in comabt he uses a +5 blessed longspear and enhances himself an dhis part with spells such as haste, mirror image, and mage armor. Is this your first time playing an epic level character? Spells such as these are not even worth mentioning at level 23. Why are you even using them? You should have items that make these spells pointless. For example, bracers of armor and mage armor don't stack. Haste is only good for the extra attack. Mirror image is instantly countered by true sight. 3.)my wisdom is low because i dont use it a lot. 15 will save 17 against spells and i have a SR of 21 (mantle of spell resistance). Ummm...OK. You know these saves are really bad for a 23 lvl character. The spell resistance is pretty low too. A DC 30 will save would be common in epic levels. You would fail such a save about 75% of the time. Also, an SR 21 would not stop any spells cast by 20th level caster, so that mantle is pretty much worthless. 4.)Brottor's hot headedness leads him into battle right off flaming the enemy then attacking with his spear. luckly most of what he is fighting is evil so crits pass and no damage reduction (blessed wepon). Maybe I'm misunderstanding the "blessed" part. Is this from the "bless" spell aka holy? You know that just because an item is holy that doesn't mean it bypasses damage reduction of evil monsters. Many high level baddies have damage reduction that incorporates special metals and aligned weapons. For example, demons require cold iron and good to overcome their damage reduction. All in all, he needs an extreme make-over. |
| Darkmatter2005-24-05, 02:57 AM | Just saying what everyone else seems to be saying. Theres no character in the post. So zero for personallity. Now for the powergaming part. You can't apply the half-dragon template twice. And you didn't start at level one. The half dragon template is a +3 level adjustment off the top of my head. It looks like your playing with a DM that only knows how to attack you by straight combat "I roll to attack" option. Hence that strength score would be impressive in such a game. With that wisdom score (icky by the way) I would be enchanting your character so fast he would already have turned on his party and kissing the BEBG's boots. |
| SnowbearK05-24-05, 03:30 AM | With that wisdom score (icky by the way) I would be enchanting your character so fast he would already have turned on his party and kissing the BEBG's boots. *khooor-shhhhhh...khooor-shhhhh* "Brottor...I am your Father!" :P |
| Rannos Firefist05-24-05, 07:59 AM | well you see thats just it people do try to enchant me and succed sometimes but i have a pasifist cleric who is ready to heal/dispel magic on me and also the person who we are fighting is usaualy dead with in no time. in my party there is torr grint of clan sturt a dwarven rouge 23 Alton Redwald a pacifist cleric11/apostle of peace10/saint2 and Brogan a ranger8/order of the bow initiate10/deep wood sniper5. we work well togeather but yes my will saves get annoying. however we have only come up against necromacers for the most part because of this campain. i g2g post you guys later |
| Lord of the Underdark05-24-05, 09:51 AM | Favored Class: Fighter Could you kindly point me to the text that states a half-dragon's favored class is Fighter? Because as a "half-dragon" he's not a Dwarf. |
| darkness ninja of light05-24-05, 02:46 PM | Could you kindly point me to the text that states a half-dragon's favored class is Fighter? Because as a "half-dragon" he's not a Dwarf. He's a dwarf with Dragon Disciple levels. Just because he became a half dragon gradually doesn't mean suddenly that his early training as a dwarf becomes too hard for him to handle. |
| Lord of the Underdark05-24-05, 03:13 PM | I could play the piano and read sheet when I was 10.....I can't now. If he's invested 21 levels to things outside "the realm of fighter", you'd figure he'd be a bit rusty. But, I guess that's just me. |
| Awesome_Man05-24-05, 03:18 PM | Well, for the 10 levels he was DD, he did engage in a lot of melee fighting. |
| darkness ninja of light05-24-05, 03:21 PM | However, he's most certainly still using his training as a fighter. He hasn't "stopped practicing". Those two feats, I can bet, are still in constant use as well as his armor profficiency, weapon profficiencies, and other less tangible things such as his skills, saves bonuses, and attack bonuses. He's still using his training from what he learned so long ago. It's hard to forget something you do every day. |
| Awesome_Man05-24-05, 03:29 PM | Just saying what everyone else seems to be saying. Theres no character in the post. So zero for personallity. Now for the powergaming part. He said he was a dwarf, then took DD, and at level 10 of DD you get the Half-Dragon Template, so he does not have the half-dragon template twice. Also he has failed many a will save, as he has said. |
| SnowbearK05-24-05, 06:52 PM | Could you kindly point me to the text that states a half-dragon's favored class is Fighter? Because as a "half-dragon" he's not a Dwarf. I could, kindly, but instead I think I'll just take your "tone" to mean you don't know how to apply Templates in the first place. Templates change nothing unless specifically noted. He retains ALL dwarven abilities. He keeps stonecunning. He keeps AC vs. Giants. He keeps his Stability. He keeps his darkvision, save bonuses, attack vs orcs/goblinoids, and so on and so forth, including favored class. He's a DWARF with the HALF-DRAGON TEMPLATE applied -- specifically via the Dragon Disciple class. Regardless of my personal opinion of the character as posted, mechanically it is correct. Does that suffice as an answer or would you like it in crayola? |
| feartheinvinceblehamster05-24-05, 07:04 PM | crayola to fancy. ug need it etch in graystone |
| Darkmatter2005-25-05, 11:25 AM | He said he was a dwarf, then took DD, and at level 10 of DD you get the Half-Dragon Template, so he does not have the half-dragon template twice. | Rannos Firefist05-25-05, 09:02 PM | too bad. well i cant say anybody will miss ya. any way Brottor has recently embarked on a quest to get a dragon cohart. he dreams of riding in to battle raining fire from the heavens and destroying the 8th of 12 champion of the black mavens. |
| Arcen05-25-05, 10:45 PM | Hmm I was just looking at the DD and I don't see where it says a characters height changes. How'd you get to be 10ft. tall? |
| TheErsatzFacsimileOfMe05-25-05, 10:57 PM | Aren't all dwarves 10 feet tall? :uh-huh: |
| Edymnion05-26-05, 12:28 AM | Hmm I was just looking at the DD and I don't see where it says a characters height changes. How'd you get to be 10ft. tall?5th level ability is Enlargement, become one size catagory larger. Least it is in 3.0, I don't know where it got reprinted (or even if it got reprinted) in 3.5. |
| Arcen05-26-05, 03:19 AM | Ah ok. The Dragon Disciple from 3.5 DMG only has Blindsense at 5th level. |
| TheErsatzFacsimileOfMe05-26-05, 08:17 AM | Well, I can see why v3.5 took out that ability...It has munchkin written all over it. |
| Rannos Firefist05-26-05, 01:14 PM | guys guys guys well all have to remember that 3.5 is terrible. it was made before 3.0 was released just so that wizards could make money. the rules are horrendus and the new classes suck. |
| Jeremiah DeathFist05-26-05, 04:20 PM | Oops, sorry I got confused... anyway great character but I would up your wisdom score if I was you as it is usefull to many skillchecks. |
| Da Dinictus05-26-05, 04:24 PM | Wait a second.... you are a Druid, which is a divine spellcaster that uses Wisdom to cast it's spells but you only have a 9 on Wisdom and over 20 on everything else. How did that happen?Sorcerer and Dragon Disciple. Charisma for both, if I'm not mistaken. |
| Jeremiah DeathFist05-26-05, 04:25 PM | Sorcerer and Dragon Disciple. Charisma for both, if I'm not mistaken. Ya I just realized. I got two threads confused. Sorry. I edited the post. |
| Rannos Firefist05-27-05, 12:11 AM | yea ive been meaning to up the wisdom however i think i defines my character. its something that is Brottor and i think it would be to metawise thinking if i uped it for the stats. Brottor is a hott headed individual but he makes it up with a compassion and love that is a force to be recond with. btw Rannos and Ilde (brottors father and mother) were both killed in an attack by orcuses army. SWIFT DEATH TO THEM MY PARENTS WILL BE AVENGED. he is going to kill orcus. for vengence |
