| Owiercyn03-16-05, 04:38 AM | I'm having a difficult time with my DM right now. He thinks that my character is far too overpowered and needs to reign him in. Granted, my sorcerer can toss some pretty wicked damage spells, but it's not like I have a ton of utility... he's a sorcerer after all. Ok, some background. We're running in Greyhawk, but he took it upon himself to redefine how magic works. Arcane magic is drawn from everything around you, clerics draw their magic from their faith and connection to their deity, druids draw it from nature and life stuff, and psionics is magic drawn from within themselves. Arcane magic I guess runs kind of like Dark Sun, where if you draw too much from an area, everything nearby starts to die or something. He assigns clerics a couple spells that they must prepare each level since it is assigned by their deity. Psions he runs pretty much by the book. Right, anyway, lately things have been going from bad to worse. He nerfed my fireball down to a 10 ft radius after I blew apart an orc army that he marched up to the keep gates... Even though I've really playing my character as the really good honorable guy who doesn't care much for huge organized law, he won't let me take Celestial Familiar even though six months ago he said it was fine. He thought a familiar that can cast magic missile 3/day at CL 4 was "too powerful". He won't let me take ANY meta-magic feats at all. I can't take Exalted Arcanist anymore even though he had been saying for a year that it was ok... What am I doing wrong? Why are my spells suddenly being nerfed? Why can't I take feats, a prestige class, or even certain spells because he says I make them too powerful? I just really don't know what to do with this DM... The players in the campaign are very cool and they don't want me to leave because they say I'm the only one that allows them to survive because I can use my combat spells really well. They also like the roleplay stuff, since I've kinda become the party leader since I able to come up with weird and fun plans to beat encounters. Now Cone of Cold has its ranged halved, chain lightning only does 1/2 caster level secondary targets... I'm afraid he's going to nerf my Scorching Ray or the Diamond Spray spells I've had for ages. Any advice? I've talked to him and he says that my spells are always too powerful. I think he's tried killing a couple characters off because he likes running tough campaigns, but I got lucky on some damage rolls or used a spell in a way he didn't think of, so they lived... I don't know what I'm doing wrong that he has to house rule all of my spells. |
| Draco Strang03-16-05, 05:57 AM | Voice your concerns, and talk to him in a calm, logical manner. Maybe you can get through to him. If you can't.....find a new game. |
| rhflyweyr03-16-05, 06:01 AM | Although you shouldnt phrase it like this: the simple fact is that it isnt your problem it is his. Especially if the reason he is nerfing you is because you are being creative in game. Let him know that instead of nerfing you, he should chose encounters (ie particular monsters and set ups) that will make it harder for you to win. For example, monsters with spell resistance or elemental resistance. Or to counter a fireball... dont group the army together, etc. |
| ShadowDragon868503-16-05, 07:20 AM | Okay. There's a simple way to resolve this. Get your hammer gun out. Go down to Home Depot, stock up on ammunition. Shoot your DM. In the face. With. A. Hammer. |

For example, monsters with spell resistance or elemental resistance. Or to counter a fireball... dont group the army together, etc. That's correct, as a DM I know. And it IS his problem. I had the same problem with some of my characters too. they were very creative and caused a lot of problems in the games. The best thing he can do is create better encounters with some puzzles in it (there are some on the forum), and the biggest problems for a spellcaster are Golems (magic-immunity). Then you have to cast backup-spells or else you're pretty useless. Then he is making nice encouters foor the other partymembers, and situation for you have to handle. The same goes for silence spells and all of that. I hope he is realizing now that regular orcs just don't cut it in those times. If there is a powerful spellcaster in the party, he musn't just march with a group of orcs, but throw other spellcasters against the party (maybe along with the orcs, if he wants to use them). Class levels on monsters are pretty fun, and another challenge! reducing spellpower is just as awful as reducing abilities because a character is "too powerful", because NOTHING is too powerful. There are always more powerful creatures in any game, movie or book (doesn't he watch movies??), you just have to find them, and that's a DM's job in combat-encounters. |
| CzarGarrett03-16-05, 09:41 AM | Voice your concerns, and talk to him in a calm, logical manner. Maybe you can get through to him. If you can't.....find a new game. /signed His ineptitude should not be causing you problems like this. |
| Serious Games Only03-16-05, 09:53 AM | Okay. There's a simple way to resolve this. Get your hammer gun out. Go down to Home Depot, stock up on ammunition. Shoot your DM. In the face. With. A. Hammer. I bet that if the DM posted on the DM boards talking about how his Sorcerer player is way to powerful blasting every challenge away and with all sorta 'weird' feats like Celestial Familiar and Exalted Arcanist and becuase of it he is damageing the setting balence you guys would tell him to do the same thing to the player and to make his blasting spells less powerful. I may be a new member but I've been lurking long enouph to notice that. |
| MrkGrismer03-16-05, 09:56 AM | Those must bre pretty stupid orcs to all be grouped like that within a 20' radius, the tightest formation any organized party should have in a D&D world should still leave at least 5' (an empty square) between each one, unless there is good reason for otherwise. The most the fireball should be able to take out is maybe 20, generally less (and a lot less). If his orcs were stupid enough to walk up to the keep gates shoulder-to-shoulder then they deserved to die, cleans up the gene pool. It sounds to me like the DM needs help running his monsters like they have an intelligence higher then 3. |
| Ra-Tiel03-16-05, 10:00 AM | Hello. First, I agree with Draco Strang. Second, I highly doubt that he tones down the enemies to compensate for the loss of fire power that the party is assumed to have according to the Core Rules. Therefore, rather sooner then later he will have a tpk at his hands because he nerfed your spells into uselessness. Third, when that happens, play a cleric. Forth, if your DM doesn't stop doing this kind of illogical stuff to you tell him to :censored: off, leave and start your own game where casters aren't punished for having a d4 and no armor. Greetings, _Ra-Tiel. |
| Owiercyn03-16-05, 12:07 PM | Well, the case with me taking out all the orcs... The orc army actually had a counter-speller along, but I hit it with an empowered eneveration, knocking off 5 levels so it either it ran out of 3rd level spells or couldn't cast them at all... I used invisibility to get in close and Dimension Door to book it back to the keep. That was after the party rogue and I had snuck out and blown apart their catapults, she used UMD to use a wand of fireballs I had created just for this kind of thing. That's when the spellcaster hit us with a fireball from about 400 feet away, so I drank a potion of invis and got it with the enervation. The rogue used her own potion of invis to fly away back to safety also. That's when we tossed a few fireballs at the approaching army that was reforming for its second attack... Then while the few remaining orcs, basically a half dozen leveled up ones and the orcish general charged, I dueled the other spellcaster in the sky... She failed her fort save against a poison spell I used and ran out of HP after a magic missile. Then I turned around and used a disintegrate on the general, who rolled a one on his saving throw... The DM really is like a medieval war lover, so he's thrown 3 big battlefield encounters at us in the last 6 sessions, and every one we've managed to decimate with us barely taking any damage. Now we're going on a sea voyage and I'm afraid of what's going to happen, since he said I couldn't take teleport when I leveled up because that made travel pointless... It's weird, since I know he's used teleportation magic of some kind before... It's just now that I could use it potentially 5 or 6 times a day, it's way too powerful. |
| Drachasor03-16-05, 12:19 PM | I bet that if the DM posted on the DM boards talking about how his Sorcerer player is way to powerful blasting every challenge away and with all sorta 'weird' feats like Celestial Familiar and Exalted Arcanist and becuase of it he is damageing the setting balence you guys would tell him to do the same thing to the player and to make his blasting spells less powerful. I may be a new member but I've been lurking long enouph to notice that. Now, we'd tell him to get a clue and start taking the party's capabilities into account. There is no sane reason to nerf fireball or almost all other core spells down. I can see some advice about being careful with exalted stuff; that is very potent. Even that has counters though (it is very hard to stay exalted). It sounds like he's just played very, very well. If anything he should be rewarded. Then the DM should start learning from this player, and making sure encounters do come up now and then to handle the player. As well as making sure to throw multiple encounters a day at them. It is pretty clear the DM is largely in the wrong. I am sure the player wouldn't be posting if all that happened was the DM deciding against the use of exalted rules, which are by definition optional. -Drachasor |
| Lina_Inverse03-16-05, 12:26 PM | your dm is an idiot.you dont throw armys against pcs.its very very very simple.the game is designed for small groups ganging up on indivdual monsters.eventully small creatures become so weak as to not be worth mentioning. lets not even go into teleport.its MENT to make travel pointless.travel is something you smack low level pcs with.high level pcs need more intresting and inventive challenges. your dm has no right to punish you for sucking.any dm who has a problem with nukes, the worst spells in the game must suck. face it your dm sucks, get your buddys to find a better dm. |
| Abulafia03-16-05, 12:31 PM | Your DM's problem is this: he likes medieval warfare, and D&D is not a medieval warfare game. Things that work well in medieval warfare (like building castles, marching soldiers in tight formations, etc.) do not work well in a typical D&D game because of things like the fireball spell. Casting fireball at a group of marching orcs is not an overpowered thing to do, it is an obvious thing to do. *The* obvious thing to do. Experienced gamers might've done something even more gruesome, like cast Evard's Black Tentacles in front of the group and a Blade Barrier behind them. If he can't handle fireball, he might as well chuck magic entirely and play D20 Past. There has to be a different game you can join. Try the RPG classifieds boards. Southern Wisconsin is full of gamers. |
| MrkGrismer03-16-05, 12:33 PM | I hit it with an empowered eneveration Okay, (4+2) sixth level spell, which means your group is at least 11th level and your DM expects basic orcs to be anything but slaughtered? I think your DM needs to investigate the meaning of unrealistic expectations. |
| Owiercyn03-16-05, 12:35 PM | I am sure the player wouldn't be posting if all that happened was the DM deciding against the use of exalted rules, which are by definition optional. We've been doing exalted rules from the start... The paladin and I both have a couple exalted feats... It's really kinda fun arguing with him sometimes because I'm chaotic and don't necessarily believe in following all the laws of the land or jailing or killing every "evil" type person we run in to. Like the other day I used Nonlethal substitution to knock out an enemy spellcaster. After we got the information we needed out of her, I said that she could go if she gave her word not to serve the evil nation anymore. The paladin thought I was completely naive, but my character believes that everyone should have the freedom to choose to mend their ways. As it turns out, the next day she attacked us anyway, and I promptly disintegrated her. Do you think the saves on my spells could be making him mad? I had an 18 to start with, I've gotten +3 for levels, a +1 tome we found, and a +4 cloak of Charisma... That means all my fireballs and stuff are pretty hard to resist, and I have spells like baleful polymorph, disintegrate, and hold monster so that I can use whatever spell I think the enemy has a bad save against. |
| Stafir Ortnev03-16-05, 12:41 PM | Actually..what you need to do. Is have your DM post just that on the DM board. Have him explain he has a 'problem player' who is using the sorcerer..but he can't figure out how to combat the sorc. The problem isn't the the OP..the player. The problem is that the DM dosn't take the sorc into consideration..and instead of making gameplans that include the sorc...he nerfs the sorcs spells down. The DM needs to ask for help..and..this is exactly what the DM forums are for..to ask for help when the DM comes to a wall. Of course..the player should never read the thread. Editing editing, along the bounty main----------------------------------- But as an aside..be ready for something..they may mention you have too much stuff..and some of it needs to be gone to help. But what the DM needs..is really a lesson in magic tactics..tactics on using and fighting magic in battle. |
| Ra-Tiel03-16-05, 12:47 PM | Forgive me, but how many players are in the party? He nerfed my fireball down to a 10 ft radius :uh-huh: He thought a familiar that can cast magic missile 3/day at CL 4 was "too powerful". :uh-huh: He won't let me take ANY meta-magic feats at all. :uh-huh: :twitch: :twitch: Now Cone of Cold has its ranged halved :uh-huh: chain lightning only does 1/2 caster level secondary targets :uh-huh: at the approaching army that was reforming for its second attack  he's thrown 3 big battlefield encounters at us in the last 6 sessions   he said I couldn't take teleport when I leveled up because that made travel pointless :looloo: Yeah, of course! Tell your DM that DnD is *NOT* meant to be a medieval battlefields simulation! Not allowing a sorcerer to pick metamagic is like telling a fighter he cannot pick weapon specialization! This DM has serious issues. It seems he doesn't like the players "beating" him in the game! He's crippling the abilities of player characters beyond reason and understanding. :headexplo <biting sarcasm> If your character dies, only play fighters. Don't even ask for prestige classes for he won't allow them because they are too overpowered anyway. Tell the rest of your group to do the same. A party with 3 fighters and 1 rogue is really funny. Don't buy healing items. Don't hire cohorts, for he wouldn't allow them because they use spells and classes that are way too strong. Keep dying every session in the second combat. Make new characters. Repeat this paragraph until your DM jumps from the roof of the Empire State Building! </biting sarcasm> By the way, good computer games make :censored: DMs pointless! I personally would rather play BG2, Morrowind or Sacred before playing with such a jerk again! Greetings and good luck, _Ra-Tiel. |
| Drachasor03-16-05, 12:49 PM | Do you think the saves on my spells could be making him mad? I had an 18 to start with, I've gotten +3 for levels, a +1 tome we found, and a +4 cloak of Charisma... That means all my fireballs and stuff are pretty hard to resist, and I have spells like baleful polymorph, disintegrate, and hold monster so that I can use whatever spell I think the enemy has a bad save against. That's what a +8 on your DCs? So a 3rd level spell has a DC of 21? At 11th level that's not too hard to resist if it is a monster's good save, and that is without the monster having any boost from items or spells. A CR 9-12 Monster should be making about half of their good saves against such effects, more with some magic boosts. Of course if your DM constantly throws low level Orcs at you..bleh. Even a bunch of 3rd level Orcs or 5th level ones should be slaughtered by your party. Your heavy melee guys should easily have *at least* mid-twenties in their AC. That means a 5th level fighter would have to roll a 20 to hit. Even a Rogue should be able to get close to there (+6 to 7 from Dex, +6 from armor, and a ring of protection). The DM needs to be adapting to your level and tactics better. There are ways to protect oneself from these sorts of spells. The enemy could control monsters with immunities to some or all of them. An enemy Cleric could cast Spell Resistance on himself and use animated objects. A Wizard could illusion his allies and himself so that you cast your spells at the wrong targets (warriors look like wizards, wizards like warriors, etc). And there are a number of spells useful for boosting saving throws, as well as magic items. Of course, another sorcerer or wizard could counter your spells too. The DM needs to stop trying to make the game into something it just isn't suited for. If he wants mostly medieval combat, he'll have to go to another venue. D&D isn't it. -Drachasor |
| Owiercyn03-16-05, 12:49 PM | Actually..what you need to do. Is have your DM post just that on the DM board. Have him explain he has a 'problem player' who is using the sorcerer..but he can't figure out how to combat the sorc. I'm kinda afraid of doing that since he might just want to figure out an encounter to kill people off again. The other players tell me he's done that before, and we've just skated through a tough mission into a dungeon below a keep. The only reason we've survived is the really tough monsters or fighters or spellcasters have rolled badly on their saving throws against my spells. I'm out of my high level spells after about four encounters worth of monsters, so I've been conserving a disintegrate or a hold monster/polymorph now and using up my magic missiles, scorching rays, and diamond sprays when I can. The cleric is burning threw all her spells, the paladin uses all his specials, and our rogue... well she never runs out of things to pull out. |
| Drachasor03-16-05, 12:53 PM | If the DM has a "kill the players" fixation, then he needs to take a step back and calm down. If characters die, they die, but a DM shouldn't go out of his way to kill people off (individual NPCs might go out of their way, but that doesn't mean the DM should tack on a few levels to them so they can definitely do it). -Drachasor |
| Owiercyn03-16-05, 12:54 PM | Oh yeah, I forgot, I did take the nonlethal substitution and empower spell feats back when I was like at level 3. He was ok with them back then, it's just now he won't let me take any others like maximize, chain spell, twin spell, repeat spell, stuff like that. |
| Stafir Ortnev03-16-05, 12:55 PM | Mmm..unles things change sounds like the DM is bout to take care of their problem. TPK..."I win, you all loose..ha ha haa...now make new level one chars..and no arcane mages!" The big problem is seriously your DM..not you. The group needs to talk to the DM....heck if you like the idea of DMing yourself..maybe ask if you can co-dm? Basically help design encounters and the like for the party to go through. Help run the monsters. But really, it does sound like your DM is just unhappy that you are outwitting them..when all they use are dull tactics of..big tough melee enemy. |
| Ra-Tiel03-16-05, 12:57 PM | @Owiercyn: Well, nothing prevents you from posting on the DM's forum, or? You could just throw in your point of view and make some points clear that the DM "accidentally" forgot to mention, like everything I've quoted in my last post. But rather than that talk with him. The whole group. And show him this: DnD is not players vs DM! There is no "winning"! Everybody should have fun playing! Greetings, _Ra-Tiel. |
| IceFractal03-16-05, 01:00 PM | I think Abulafia hit the nail on the head. The DM seems to like medieval warfare, and medieval warfare just isn't practical in D&D. In fact, D&D warfare works more like modern or even futuristic warfare. Things that worked in the real past - like tight formations, force of numbers, traditional strongholds, sieges - just don't work in D&D. A bunch of low-level orc soldiers will, and should, get massacred by a party of high level PCs. If you don't want that to happen, then you need to change the system on a fundamental level. You'd pretty much have to make things extremely low magic, and change the available classes. But putting footsoldiers against a high level spellcaster and expecting them to do anything but die is like putting some Roman legions against long-range artillery and helicopters. |
| Owiercyn03-16-05, 01:03 PM | Ok, I guess I'll try talking to the other players first and see if we can't talk about what's going on. Maybe we can write up a few things we've noticed in the past few sessions and try talking with him. I really hate to take it to this level but I guess since we really like our characters, it would suck to have him just blow us away arbitrarily. Do you think I should try running my own campaign with the same characters? We'd have to find a new player to do my sorcerer since I'll be busy enough as it is, and it would be hard to do sneaky encounters since I would never know if the sorcerer would figure it out or not on his own. Or do you think I should try asking to co-DM? The whole thing's complicated since I just started dating IRL the DM's sister a month ago... He seems ok with it, but I don't want to really rock the boat, cuz y'know, the whole "blood runs thicker" idea, don't want to get any family members mad at you if you want a chance at something that'll last. |
| Maerdash03-16-05, 01:06 PM | Ok ive been dming nad playing for a good stretch of my life but i learned not to mess with core classes at all it angers players and angry players are bad players. Tell your dm to get a life and quit nerfing core just because he isnt creative enough (or is set on his game being "realistic" in regard to war). Any dm who srewscore classes overis asking for his players to walk. Be polite but also let him know that this isnt somethong you find acceptable, if he wont listen to reason teach him a lesson, switch to cleric telling him that since he changed the sorc after you created your char that you no longer want to play it due to the rules change. Now go get some of the icky core builds off the boards and start destroying every encounter, sooner or later he'll nerf every class and the other players wont stand for that. (keep in mind that my teach the dm a lesson statements are for those who are willing to find a new game since many dms cant handle someone treating them the way they treat others.) Be prepared to walk, but if its worth it to you either follow the advice on the boards (talking is always better) or buck up and suffer under stupid restictions. good luck (man i really ramble huh?) :D |
| Ra-Tiel03-16-05, 01:21 PM | Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for any and each mental damage caused by the following post! @Owiercyn: If your DM is *that* deeply into medieval warfare, he should take a look at Hârnmaster. It's an absolutely sucking d% system. You determine *everything* with dice rolls. Gender, height, age, attributes, profession, service in the militia, potential for mystical powers, length of male reproductive organ (ok, that's exaggerated, but I guess you got what I mean). We've never even played it once, because the system is CRAP! The first character I've rolled up was a smith with a strength of 7. Human average: 13. :waits: And in character creation you need a d10000. :looloo: Hârnmaster is what I call "Medieval Simulation v3.7d"! But take my advice: DO NOT PLAY IT! Combat is even suckier (is that an English word?) than character creation. Basically everything's a skill check. You must roll under your attribute+skill. If the roll is successful and ends with x0 or x5, you've scored a critical success. If the roll is a failure and ends with x0 or x5, you've scored a critical fumble. Then you compare the attacker's check result against the defender's check result according to a table and then something happens. Either you're dead, or you're opponent is dead, or your weapon broke, or the enemy's shield broke. That's the basics. It is so stupid, the system could have been designed by goblins! But it's a good medieval simulation! --- Back on topic. Why not change the seats for a time? Let him play a character and then you nerf his class into nothingness. Ask him if he liked being treated like this. Many problems arise simply because players and DMs are talking like this: ------><------ or ------> <------ or <------|------> instead of ------> ------>. Ask him to change his style of play. Massively amassed lowlevel mobs simply are no match for highlevel spellcasters. He needs to employ tactics and strategy, not more orcs. _Ra-Tiel. |
| ShadowDragon868503-16-05, 01:35 PM | There's a section in the Complete Warrior that covers exactly why tight formations are bad in a D&D style thing. He's thinking Lord of the Rings, and like, Helm's Deep, or the Battle of Gondor. That's just not going to work. It's STUPID. While I was watching the battle of Helm's Deep, I was thinking "give me ten level 1 wizards/sorcerers with wands of Fireball, five level fives, and two level 12s. We'll take CARE of your Oruk-hai for you." Essentially, the comment about Roman Legions Vs. 155 Howitzers and Apache Longbows is correct. It's just stupid. It's not that you're overpowered. It's that he's playing his monsters like retard Uruk-hai. Orcs in D&D are not Uruk-Hai. And the enemy is not scared crapless 14 year old boys with swords and chainmail hauberks. The Orcs in D&D are quite capable of dieing, and if they march shoulder to shoulder in lockstep, they are *going* to do just that when the Fireballs starts hitting. Heaven forbid you'd used it with Enlarge. And now he wants to take you on a sea campaign? Even with a ten foot radius, you're gonna start torching sails right and left... It's so, freaking, stupid. Please, allow me to reiterate. Get the hammer gun. Go down to Home Depot. Stock up on ammunition. Lock. Load. Shoot your DM. In the Face. With. A. Hammer. Repeat above step as nessessary. |
| DM Denubis03-16-05, 01:56 PM | Wait, let me get this straight... You're playing a sorcerer, and the DM is calling you overpowered? And having a hard time adapting? Dude... You're a sorcerer. Widely considered the worst class in the game, no offense intended. Your spells NEVER change. You will always have the same spells to cast. How could he have a hard time adapting to that? It's not like you can adapt to anything! The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting it to have different results. If he makes a large army of small creatures attack a high level spellcaster, he's not challenging you very well. If he does it again, he's being stupid. If he does it yet again, while nerfing your spells, he's being horribly uncreative. Would it be so terribly hard to use something with Spell Resistance? Enemy spellcasters? Things with Spell Turning? (Always a nasty one.) |
| HomebrewedMonster03-16-05, 03:08 PM | A DM that has to make house rules to challenge his party is a DM that should not DM. House rules should be established when the game begins. If he wishes to institute new house rules then he needs to dicuss it with the players, if its cool, then its instituted. If not, too bad. Fireball with 10ft. radius? This guy is a doushe. |
| MrkGrismer03-16-05, 03:54 PM | I have to agree that if the DM wants a midevil simulation, Harnmaster would be for him (and with the Lionheart supplement it can even be historical). I disagree with it being 'stupid', just different. Certainly not high fantasy. The game can be worth playing, but it ain't D&D. But back on topic, perhaps you should point your DM to this thread. |
| Wizard03-16-05, 04:20 PM | ...wow. I have to wonder why the DM hasn't tried building his own sorcerer and sending it against you guys. |
| Owiercyn03-16-05, 04:37 PM | @Wizard: He has, and through various tactics like bait and switch, raw damage, or sheer bad rolls, his sorcerers have proved rather ineffective. Of course, as always, it's just one save-or-die spell away... |
| DM Denubis03-16-05, 04:51 PM | Evasion, Mettle, Divine Grace... There's too many ways to get around most things. Not to mention, if you're at that level, NPC enemies should have quite a bit of magic on them. And they shouldn't be alone. |
| diaboli03-16-05, 05:48 PM | Definitely not any fault of the player. Sounds like the DM is being lazy. His orcs should be learning from the multiple raids. 1st raid: orcs get smacked down. 2nd raid: orcs still get some smackage (word hasn't quite spread yet) 3rd raid: orcs should be on the alert and more tactically prepared. Especially if they are in a large force. |
| Serious Games Only03-16-05, 07:04 PM | I bet that the DM is DMing a low magic setting and their just arn't other spell casters around to challenge the PCs very often. Maybe wave after wave of orcs are being used becuase its the only shot they have then your some of the highest level PCs in the campaign settin? |
| green_yawgmoth03-16-05, 11:13 PM | If you really want to work him over, (talk to the other players first, so they can plan ahead) the next time you get into combat, do nothing. Absolutely nothing. Take the full defense action every round until combat ends. if he asks why, say something to the effect of "well, if I use a spell you'll just say it's overpowered and make it worthless to me." This of course after you talk to him about his massive suckage as a DM and all those mature-type plans. Shaodow Dragon: I was thinking more along the lines of "My sorcerer 20 could take on all of them in... 2 rounds." This was using 3.0 spells, though. All those tightly formed ranks in a nice square, just gimme a time stop, a haste, and a few maxed lightning bolts. :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
| Owiercyn03-17-05, 11:15 AM | Update on previous events: I've talked to the other players, and all of them agree that we need to do something. So we've written up a few things and taken a few suggestions from this thread about being unrealistic about the power of mages and throwing low-level armies at us with a few tougher commanders. Like I said before, it's not that EVERY session goes that way, like we've done a 3 session long dungeon crawl to find and destroy a clutch of Slaadi eggs that was about to hatch. The only problem is that it was me laying waste to his armies that peeved him off. We'll see how things go when we bring all this stuff to him tomorrow. |
