| Chaotis11-23-05, 08:10 AM | I have 2 friends who like the game, and 1 brother who I'm not sure will like the game at all. Who can DM for me? I barely ever get to go to those friends houses. :allalone: |
| Chaotis11-23-05, 09:23 AM | I need some help figuring out either: #1: What I can do to play it. #2: How to convince my brother to DM for me if there is no answer for #1. |
| High Octane11-23-05, 09:39 AM | DM it yourself! Problem solved. No more posts necessary. |
| Chaotis11-23-05, 09:43 AM | You mean DM for my own character? Doesn't sound promising... |
| the burrfoot11-23-05, 09:44 AM | dont be cold! dming is horrible ive tried it loads of times its nasty u get all sweaty behind the screen and they stare at you with their dull fish eyes expecting you to make it good or suffer! no there must be a way! ill have a think for you and be back in a tad |
| Chaotis11-23-05, 09:47 AM | 1) I know for a fact PCs are not like bloodthirsty animals. 2)I'm not listening to advice from someone who spammed their own topic and every other one. |
| High Octane11-23-05, 09:59 AM | The truth of D&D is, someone has to bite the bullet and turn in their character sheet for a DMs screen. If you are the only one interested, you have to be the one willing to DM. After a while, you may find that one of the players would like to try it himself. Happened to me. But, for a while, your section will be: http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=24 Who knows, you may learn to love it. |
| Chaotis11-23-05, 10:04 AM | You do realize my problem is lack of other people to play D&D with, right? |
| Chaotis11-23-05, 10:21 AM | Do you want me to DM myself(by "myself", I mean my own character with no other people in the room), or do you think there are other people to be PCs? |
| strcpy11-23-05, 10:38 AM | Unfortunetly if you want to play as a character, and first have to get other people to join. You will have to DM for them first, and if they like it then perhaps when your campaign is over and everyone else if comfortable with the game then you can think about handing over the reins. Forcing anyone to be a DM results in royal screw up. |
| Chaotis11-23-05, 10:40 AM | Getting other players is a major problem here. |
| Chaotis11-23-05, 10:50 AM | I will now re-adress the problem: I am starting playing D&D soon. I only know 2 people that like the game and can play it(parents think it's satanic in my other friend's families). I can't go to their houses to play much. How can I find more players? |
| seTiny11-23-05, 11:22 AM | Try this forum Gamer Classifieds (http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=347) for finding players in your area or you can try some play by post (http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=278) if you don't find any players and just want to play. Be sure to read the forum rules before posting to either. |
| DreadWizardDM11-24-05, 04:46 AM | Are there any game shops or hobby shops in your area? Maybe you can inquire at one of them. |
| Chaotis11-24-05, 06:00 PM | I'm 12. My mom doesn't want me to use those to find players, any ideas for playing with minimal players? My brother is in a VERY bad mood so no convincing him to play right now. |
| xvthreetwoonevx11-24-05, 06:33 PM | I'm going to second the play-by-post, or, if you have AIM/MSN/IRC, you could try poking around the Gamer Classifieds for an online campaign of some sort. Also, you probably should see if you can get down to a local hobby shop or game store of some sort, they usually have a bulletin board or something of games that are going on. But, if you really only have yourself and two people to play with (if i'm reading this correctly), try DM'ing for them, and have them each play two characters. In a campaign i'm playing in right now, each player is playing 3 characters. It's hell to keep track of the personalities, and there's not a whole lot of roleplaying, but it's a load of fun nonetheless. |
| Dinue1311-24-05, 06:35 PM | Get your mom to MAKE your brother DM (i assume hes older). then you and your 2 friends can play at your house, she can bake cookies everyones happy, except your brother :) 3 PCs is fine just stick to the basic archtypes and keep it simple. if you work together you can have alot of fun and learn quickly. |
| Szat11-24-05, 06:35 PM | Chaotis - Well you've got a few options. To begin with the local gaming store idea is a pretty good one. If your parents won't let you go there then you've got a bit of a problem as that means you're limited to your school or other resources. I'd suggest the following 1. Find out if there are any games at the local gaming store. If you're not allowed there... 2. See if anyone would play during the lunchhour at your school... 3. There are a lot of vibrant online games using messenger and other IM applications. I've personally never done any IM roleplaying but I've heard it's pretty good. The D&D Classified forums will have information on Online games as well you can search the net looking for some. It doesn't sound like it's going to be easy for you, sorry man. If you need anything else PM or email me and I'll be glad to do what I can! |

"not allowed there..." 2. it's 30 minutes, and it's a private school. 3. possibly Maybe I could get my brother(who IS older than me by the way) to DM for me. He reads alot and plays alot of video games, and memorizes strategy guides(don't ask. just... don't.), so the DMG shouldn't be hard for him to read and memorize. I'm going with the brother DM approach. He's quite creative, and could make some pretty good campaigns. |
| Chaotis11-24-05, 07:45 PM | How does that work? How in the world do others see the map? How do you roll without cheating? |
| guru789211-24-05, 07:57 PM | How do you roll without cheating? people shouldn't ask this question. and i would assume that the DM would do all the rolling. so when you attack: you watch you opponant move and as he comits to short move to the left, you commit to an attack coming for is stomach with a slash and then being read for a trained backslash accross the chest. or something like that... |
| Chaotis11-24-05, 08:15 PM | What about the rest of the questions? |
| War Angel11-24-05, 08:16 PM | I have 2 friends who like the game, and 1 brother who I'm not sure will like the game at all. Who can DM for me? I barely ever get to go to those friends houses. :allalone: If you can't get a game near you. Come to my site. We have a growing community of D&D gamers. D&D Online RP (http://ddragonsonline.proboards58.com/index.cgi) |
| Chaotis11-24-05, 08:17 PM | Why so little people on? |
| Callista11-24-05, 08:28 PM | I believe "growing community" means "I just started this site and I have some people, now I need more"... That can be good or bad, depending on your perspective. Small=more personal but also=less resources. Your choice. As for finding enough people to game with you, three is enough: 1 DM and 2 players. (CRs have to be adjusted, of course, but this is a simple matter.) A rotating DM arrangement works best if no one wants to DM constantly. |
| Julia of Hillsdown11-24-05, 08:32 PM | How does that work? How in the world do others see the map? How do you roll without cheating? Image hosting sites, like Photobucket or similar. As someone said, you can have the DM roll everything that's pertinent, or just go by the honour-system and trust people not to cheat. There are also online dicerollers, which allows players to roll themselves and DMs to check there was no cheating going on. |
| Chaotis11-25-05, 07:53 AM | My brother LOVES making stories, he's happy to be the DM! And now that I understand play-by-post I have 2 ways to play, which is good(my brother likes privacy alot, so he won't play with me alot). |
| DmMagnus11-25-05, 08:35 AM | I have 2 friends who like the game, and 1 brother who I'm not sure will like the game at all. Who can DM for me? I barely ever get to go to those friends houses. :allalone: Find new people! If you want to find a player do the classic: gamers class field. Not very useful if you are like me (live in a small city in norway where there are very few players), Go to you local gaming stor and put up a poster go to the libarary and ambush the first person you see that picks up a DnD book:P Maybe you should try to DM yourself, maybe you will endup enjoying it as much as me? Who knows? Good luck - DmMagnus |
| Bjorn the Wanderer11-25-05, 10:15 AM | When I was first starting D&D my group only had 3 people. What we would do to have a decent suzed party would be to have the 2 payers each have a 2 characters, That way we still had a decent party to work with. Now that our group is 5-7 payers depending we only play a single character. The other option is to simmply develop the campaign around 2 characters. All works out in the end, |
| Chaotis11-25-05, 01:16 PM | My friend was my DM(just got back from his house) and he used his PC(styx, can't spell the full name)centaur as an NPC in the campaign we did. There was only me and him and it worked well. |
