| lucifer77702-15-07, 11:59 AM | I'm interested in creating a character based on the picture I'm posting here, and I was wanting some help as to how to do it. The books I have to work with are basically the core books, because I don't want to over complicate things too much. Here's the stats I want to work with for point buy: 16, 14, 14, 14, 10, 10 http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/5665/pcvk3.jpg |
| PiedmonSama02-15-07, 12:27 PM | Most basic build I could suggest.... Human Rogue; Str 10 Dex 16 Con 14 Int 14 Wis 10 Cha 14* *For feinting Feats: Two Weapon Fighting, Two Weapon Defense Equipment: Short Swords x2, Leather Armor Basically, invest heavily in Tumble and Jump (you may even want to take Acrobatic instead of TWD), wait for your Tank buddy to get into melee first, then go for the flank and sneak attack with two weapons at once. When you get cornered in melee, generally go full defense and try to frustrate your enemies. To that end, I'd go for Combat Expertise, and then Improved Feint, ASAP. EDIT: Forgot Combat Expertise isn't available to Rogues of 1st level. |
| Keiichi_m02-15-07, 12:39 PM | Why wouldn't it be available to rogues at first? There's no prereq aside from INT 13 |
| Shar_the_Black02-15-07, 12:42 PM | Very nice pic. I'd also suggest the Assassin prestige class if you're making him evil. Also, are you going to start off at 1st level? |
| PiedmonSama02-15-07, 12:50 PM | Why wouldn't it be available to rogues at first? There's no prereq aside from INT 13 *Checks SRD* Woops, guess you're right! I was thinking of 3.0, where the prereqs were Int 13 and a BaB of +1. In that case, TWF and CE are definitely the feats to take, and Improved Feint would be my choice for 3rd level. |
| IdleAltruism02-15-07, 12:55 PM | If you can use it ToB swordsage could work for this. Stats 10,16,14,14,14,10 |
| lucifer77702-15-07, 01:18 PM | Yeah, he's gonna start out at first level, and I HAVE Tome of Battle, but I'm still new to it, so I didn't want to "overcomplicate" things. And as far as being evil goes, I'm not sure. I'd LIKE to be evil, but with morals, perhaps Lawful Evil, but so many DMs are like NO EVIL CHARACTERS LOLZ, so what alignment would basically fit THIS guy? I want him to be the overly cliched "mysterious silent guy" type, that doesn't have objections to killing if it furthers his goals. At the same time, however, I don't want him to be like "LOLZ TIME TO KILL RANDOM BABIES" and such... |

If you do something good in an evil way, you have achieved neutrality on that axis. :) |
| TheChilliGod02-15-07, 01:29 PM | Looks like True Neutral to me. Because you gotta break at least a couple of rules to do this guy's business. If you blame all of that shadow and stuff on the fact that he's a shadowdancer, at least. :P Could be that kind of vigilante/assassin that goes and kills based on either who deserves it (in his spare time, of course), or who paid for it; sometimes both, if you can get a bounty off of someone's head. |

You know ... I'd be tempted to make the guy a Paladin, just because. "Black just LOOKS GOOD." |
| lucifer77702-15-07, 01:43 PM | Could True Neutral or Lawful Neutral allow him to kill as he needs (slaying a man attempting to take advantage of a woman, or a cutpurse, etc etc, but not the "I killed because I felt like it" sort of attitude), or would they limit his "whims"? And yeah, the Paladin thing, XD |
| TheChilliGod02-15-07, 01:47 PM | Sure, that wouldn't hurt alignment more than already. You've killed someone, but you did it in the protection of another. He might not like the killing, but it's his job. Of course, if you want to be on the save (good) side, try talking to the enemy before you kill him. If he attacks first, his life = forfeit. |
| lucifer77702-15-07, 01:51 PM | Awesome, thanks man. I understand the "black and white" alignments, the so-called "clear cut" alignments, but actions like the ones I described confuse me sometimes as to which alignment they'd closest represent. |
| seTiny02-15-07, 01:55 PM | "They left me for dead. Thrown to the wolves. The beasts feasted on my flesh, but somehow I survived. Scarred, but alive. Now they will feel my pain when I sink my fangs into their flesh" Definitely Rogue. Maybe a little Urban Ranger (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#rangerVarian tUrbanRanger). I see him as a vigilante, hunting those that caused him pain . Getting information by any means necessary. Similar to Batman, but not quite on the side of good. More in for himself than helping the people of the world. |
| wonlee7602-15-07, 04:08 PM | Ranger, Rogue, Ninja, a Swashbuckler who really likes black clothing and a mask, with some fighter levels mixed in for flavor and a few feats. The picture looks to me like a standard TWF light armored melee type so when it comes to classes to pick, there's a lot of ways of pulling off the "look". My personal choice would be something like: Rogue/Fighter/Invisible Blade/ShadowDancer or Rogue/Shadowdancer (or take that template that qualifies for Shadowlord/Shadowlord (FR Unapproachable East) to get the whole funky shadowy feel for the image. |
| Cromag02-15-07, 05:09 PM | Looks like a human expert to me. level 1 expert str 8 dex 10 con 8 wis 10 int 8 cha 12 Skill focus perform (acting) skill focus Profession (Fashion designer) Disguise 5->4 ranks+1 from Cha profession (fashion) 7 -> 4 ranks +3 from the feat perform (acting) 8 -> 4 ranks, 1 cha, 3 feat perform (dance) 4 -> 4 ranks He could show off the "New and Improved" I'm evil and I love it design for all of the really hip assasin types! People woulld kill to wear his name on their designer tags! |

| snakeman83002-15-07, 05:40 PM | As others have been saying, this guy just screams "NINJA" to me. If you have CA at your disposal, I'd say do this. Otherwise, most definitly rouge. |
| Johnny_Angel02-16-07, 09:27 AM | Sorta reminds me of the ninja guy with the dog in Final Fantasy 3 for Super Nintendo. |
| Nidair02-16-07, 02:34 PM | I'm thinking about a soulborn here. But that's just my vision on it. |
| RobbyPants02-16-07, 03:03 PM | As many have said: rogue is the way to go. A level or two of fighter can help you get some martial-type feats, if you need them. The first poster to respond (PiedmonSama) suggested a pretty solid build. Building for Improved Feint is a decent way to get in more sneak attacks, but if you will have a fighter in your group to help you flank, I'd suggest not worrying about feinting (it will save you two feats). If you go the TWF route (looks like either two daggers or short swords in the pic), then TWF is a must (obviously) along with Weapon Focus (to get that attack bonus up!). As an alternate route, consider playing a ranger or ranger/rogue. If you choose to use daggers, the invisible blade (mentioned earlier) is a great fighter/rogue type that uses daggers to deadly effect. Just remember the errata that only lets you get one feint per round. As for alignment, lawful evil will work well for some of the things you have suggested. If you want to be an assassin type (or someone who works for someone else), lawful can be a good way to go. Killing people to further your goals is mostly an evil act (it depends on a lot of specifics). Neutral evil is great for assassin/rogue types who just want to get ahead, but aren't destructive. Although it sound's like your DM is leaning away from evil characters? Consider true neutral if you go the ranger route. Good luck! :D |
