| Samusic08-26-05, 05:22 AM | My DM is really wanting to run a D20 modern campaign with ourselves as the characters. While it sounds interesting and all, the campaign we're running right now is very interesting and enjoyable to me and it is also my first D&D/D20 game. I don't think I'd like to play in this modern campaign he's thinking about doing when our current one ends - I'd rather experience normal D&D more and enjoy more of the fantasy classes and settings before trying something like this. When he's talked about it with the group to see if they might be interested it sounded more like, "Yeah, that would be interesting...(but I don't think I'd wanna do it)" from a few other players. I don't wanna let my DM down or hurt him and stifle his creativity, but right now I really don't wanna try this campaign idea. :noway: Maybe I can just hope he forgets about it? |

| MarkB08-26-05, 06:32 AM | Well, it may be a cliche, but honesty really is the best policy. If you really don't want to play this game, you should tell him so. Be polite about it, but don't skirt the issue. |
| CryoSilver08-26-05, 10:02 AM | Yea; it's kind of an entirely different experience. I talked my friends into playing a CoC game based in my town, with themselves as the characters 10 years from now, and while it was fun, it wasn't D&D. I'd suggest just talking to your DM about it, and the other players. If they all want to go for it, play along. You may be surprised at how fun it could be. |

If you feel, "Well, they're a really good DM", then a good DM can make any setting or genre enjoyable. I will say that if your DM isn't good enough to make the campaign enjoyable for your tastes, leave. |
| MageofMyth08-26-05, 10:55 AM | I have seen gaming groups crumble and friends quit talking all because of games where people played themselves. Please note that all the players were between the ages of 20 and 40. Both times it ends because someone declares an action and the rest of the group says that they wouldn’t do that in real life. The person then declares that they would do that in real life, this causes the rest of the players to think hard and either argue until no one want to hang out anymore, or on one memorable occasion we realized that yes he would do that in real life and all quietly walked away from each other. As for your situation, just tell the DM that you are not interested in playing that type of game, and to please call you when they start playing something else. If the DM really wants to run this game than they should be allowed to try it, but you shouldn’t be forced into trying it with them. |
