| Arturius103-04-07, 10:44 PM | I play a dragonborn paladin (specifically Pal6/PlatinumKnight10/VassalOfBahamut2) and a messenger of Io states that if I, a powerful follower of Bahamut, were able to end the Dragonblood War then I'd become a god on par with Bahamut. While my character doesn't like the prospect of becoming a god after devoting 120+ years to Bahamut, he won't ignore a quest from Io. Naturally, this end is to come without killing Tiamat (which might be easier by comparison). So how would I go about doing this? A player from another game suggest neutral ground and using diplomats at first without actual contact with either god. Any other suggestions? I don't know a great deal about Tiamat, so any pertinent information would help too. |
| pyropetey903-05-07, 01:05 AM | much like the Blood War, this one was written deliberately to be complicated and nigh-impossible to end without seriously altering the multiverse. without knowing the situation (both in-game and real-world), i can't begin to guess what your DM is thinking, and i strongly recommend a long conversation so you can make an educated decision. remember, your character's loyalty is to Bahamut, and as much as he may revere Io and respect an honest attempt at peacefully resolving this War, you've sworn an oath to kill chromatic dragons whenever and wherever possible. tread lightly, and may the gods be with you. |
| Manic Man03-05-07, 02:51 AM | This isn't hard. Just make sure someone attacks Tiamut. The local demon prices sound good. Since Tiamut isn't stupid, opening up a war on 2 fronts is sucidal.S he will likely make peace with Bahamut (temporarily), until the other party is taken care off. For more fun, invite a few other parties to attack Tiamut Alternatively, open up a front of the Blood War on her plane, wait for Tiamut to be weakened, then propose peace. |
| Arturius103-05-07, 06:44 AM | The Blood War already is on her plane. She even sends troops to the effort. |
| Comus03-05-07, 08:47 AM | Okay. This is a bit of a toughy. Are you sure there's no way to accomplish this with a bit of the old ultra-violence? Killing Tiamat would be, by far, the most sure and possibly easiest way to end the war. Hm. Maybe you could get the Illithids to help. If Tiamat goes, the red dragon support to the githyanki goes, too. A bit out of left field, I know, but it's a thought. |
| Manic Man03-05-07, 08:59 AM | The Blood War already is on her plane. She even sends troops to the effort. Then half your work is done. All you need to do is to open up a few portals for assaults by the nine hells. That should weaken her for a bit, then persuade a few demon lords to attack her while she is weakened. Faced with so many foes (and bahamut yet to attack), she should be amiable for peace talks. Alternately, by RAW, get someone who has diplomacy boosted to the wazoo. Make a rushed diplomacy check, bring her to helpful (fanatic if epic rules are around). Silly i know but it works by the rules (unless demigods and deities has some rule against this) |
| LCD2YOU03-05-07, 09:15 AM | Kill one side off, or at least all the males. Let your soldiers take wives/concubines. Works everytime. |
| Nobody_03-05-07, 01:14 PM | Well, Either win the war for one side, or create a greater enemy that must be fought against. For example, you could open up a few gates to the planes of darkness, evil, demons, devils, undead, ect... Alternatively, you might want to look into a way of locking one of the planes somehow. I suggest not trying. Seems pointless to me. Divine ranks take all the fun out of it anyway. |
| Pajaul03-05-07, 01:23 PM | Step1: Get Tiamat to fall in love with you. Step 2: Fall in love with her. Step 3: Marry. Step 4: Keep each other in blissful happiness. Who cares about spreading evil when you're in love? LOVE DOTH CONQUER ALLLLL!!! That'd be my approach anyway. |
| Arturius103-05-07, 04:52 PM | I don't think forcing more enemies on her is something a paladin would do. Not to mention I couldn't if I wanted to. |
| mcnoo03-05-07, 09:11 PM | Grab yourself a good diviner and start hunting down those orbs of dragonkind. Shame you're not a rogue, there's NOTHING a decent rogue can't accomplish with a few smokesticks, some slippers of spider climbing and a lot of imagination. |
| johnkretzer03-05-07, 09:30 PM | I play a dragonborn paladin (specifically Pal6/PlatinumKnight10/VassalOfBahamut2) and a messenger of Io states that if I, a powerful follower of Bahamut, were able to end the Dragonblood War then I'd become a god on par with Bahamut. The very first thing is I would check things with Bahamut...It might not be Io sending you these messages. Just a thought. Can you specificaly gives us a list of resouces(NPCs, other PCs if there are any, etc) and your guidelines. |
| Arturius103-05-07, 10:27 PM | Party is me, a warlock, archmage, and cleric. The one that told me this was a prismatic dragon. I'm aware I don't serve Io, but it's my patron deity's father. I can't simply ignore him. I've been given no guidelines other than not killing Tiamat. |
| Pidmon03-05-07, 10:38 PM | If you're on par with killing Tiamat, then you're on par with meeting gods. Go have a face-to-face with Bahamut, spare yourself the trouble of interceptable Communes or other divination spells. Hell, it could be like a chance to drink some beer, keep the conversation with his dad to a small sidenote in the main boozefest. |
| mcnoo03-05-07, 10:40 PM | I've been given no guidelines other than not killing Tiamat. Step 1)Get the above down in contract form. Step 2)Kill Bahamut. Step 3)Begin promising career as blackguard with new-found godly power. Step 4)Profit Other than that, not a clue. |
| Arturius103-05-07, 11:48 PM | I'm not on par with fighting a god, simply stating that it'd be easier to kill her than end the war. |
| Comus03-05-07, 11:58 PM | What about getting Bahamut and Tiamat very, very drunk and then, you know... when a boy dragon and a girl dragon love each other very much... Well, they won't be making war, at least. |
| TheDarkLord03-06-07, 12:10 AM | What about getting Bahamut and Tiamat very, very drunk and then, you know... when a boy dragon and a girl dragon love each other very much... Well, they won't be making war, at least. Well, if Bahamut and Tiamat, um, did it. It could be described roughly as a titanic struggle resulting in serious collateral damage depending on how, eh... Strong of a lover they each are. I toss my vote to open up gates to another plane. But do it in style. Bring in the Far realm, seriously, cause a major planar breach in Tiamats domain with the far realm. Once the gate is open, yell into it and tell the inhabitants that they are in actuality "Sane". Then step back and watch. |
| johnkretzer03-06-07, 12:53 AM | Party is me, a warlock, archmage, and cleric. The one that told me this was a prismatic dragon. I'm aware I don't serve Io, but it's my patron deity's father. I can't simply ignore him. I've been given no guidelines other than not killing Tiamat. I am not saying you should ignore it. Just saying seek guidence from Bahamut. You do worship him. That is what someone does who is religous. Unless the whole party is dragon related somehow I don't know how much aid you'll recieve from them....remeber Io doesn't care about non-dragons. But my guess is work on bringing peace to your world between the dragons. Don't think cosmic till atleast you have forged that peace. Then using those contacts try to bring peace to the two gods. |
| epifreak03-06-07, 12:57 AM | What about getting Bahamut and Tiamat very, very drunk and then, you know... when a boy dragon and a girl dragon love each other very much... Well, they won't be making war, at least. How many heads would the progeny have? |
| BladeBoy03-06-07, 01:19 AM | i'd say around 3. |
| pyropetey903-06-07, 01:29 AM | i'd like to remind everyone that Tiamat and Bahamut are siblings. seriously, go talk to Bahamut about this. puny mortals do not meddle in the affairs of gods. it's just not a good idea. |
| Comus03-06-07, 01:48 AM | i'd like to remind everyone that Tiamat and Bahamut are siblings. Kinky. |
| Pidmon03-06-07, 02:30 AM | I'd say for seriousness' sake, both a discussion with Bahamut AND the attempt to reconcile dragons on your personal Material Plane (and possibly others) first would be a good start. Then once peace is achived, try to get the two hooked up, or take up an 'older brother' position in the godly family. :D EDIT: Oh yeah. Godly incest is canon - look at Zues and Hera (siblings). Not only was there incest, he changed into a dove in order to rape her. |
| CaoSlayer03-06-07, 07:09 AM | There is only one way to end a war quickly: surrender. |
| LCD2YOU03-06-07, 07:30 AM | i'd like to remind everyone that Tiamat and Bahamut are siblings. So, what you're saying that in parts of Eastern Oregon, Eastern San Diego County and the entire state of Pennsylvania, it's ok for them to marry? |
| Arturius103-06-07, 12:30 PM | I am not saying you should ignore it. Just saying seek guidence from Bahamut. You do worship him. That is what someone does who is religous. But my guess is work on bringing peace to your world between the dragons. Don't think cosmic till atleast you have forged that peace. Then using those contacts try to bring peace to the two gods. The archmage in the party is a spellscale and my paladin's best friend of over 50 years, so he'll help if I ask. The two BBEGs in the game are a red and shadow dragon, so I imagine the warlock and cleric will be very much involved before the end. I do have an artifact that lets me commune with Bahamut once per day, but a trip to the first heaven might be more appropriate to begin peace talks. |
| aotrscommander03-06-07, 12:40 PM | Orbital Bombardment. |
| snakeman83003-06-07, 04:33 PM | Sounds to me like gathering all ten Orbs of Dragonkind and offering to destroy them if the War is ended is your best bet. If they refuse, I would reccomend NOT USING THEM!!!. Instead, try alcohol. Lots and lots of alcohol. Or go hide in a corner and wait for your imenent doom as dragonkind hunts you down. |
| Arturius103-06-07, 04:41 PM | That's actually a pretty good idea. The orbs, not the booze. |
| Need_A_Life03-06-07, 05:03 PM | Give it up. You can't end the war. Bahamut won't let Tiamat continue spreading destruction and misery. Tiamat won't rest until Bahamut is dead. Unless you join forces with Tiamat to kill her brother, the war isn't coming to a peaceful end... especially since neither of them are subject to the imprisonment spell. |
| Arturius103-06-07, 11:13 PM | Wow, giving up. That's constructive. |
| epifreak03-06-07, 11:53 PM | Wow, giving up. That's constructive. The sad thing is that he's probably right, barring some major DM fiat. I assume, however, that since the DM created this scenario, there is some way out of it. |
| Maekrix_Waere03-07-07, 12:04 AM | Orbital Bombardment. This is so true. Would probably incinerate the blood too, so there wouldn't be any need to rinse. |
| johnkretzer03-07-07, 12:26 AM | I still don't get why you are takeing a Prismatic Dragon at face value? Also while you might respect Io. You are a Paladin of Bahamut...you have given up your orginal form...shouldn't you atleast get guidence from him to see what he wants? Now my thinking is the happy reward that Io promises you. Even if it is Io I would think trying to bribe me... But then again I have had DMs who use such tricks... |
| Comus03-07-07, 01:04 AM | This is so true. Would probably incinerate the blood too, so there wouldn't be any need to rinse. "We'll return to the spelljamming ship and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure." |
| Maekrix_Waere03-07-07, 02:42 AM | "We'll return to the spelljamming ship and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure." Its called an AoE Vengeful Gaze of God spell. 305d6 divine damage to everyone within the blast radius is a whole lot more than any nuke would do, tactical or otherwise.:P |
| epifreak03-07-07, 03:02 AM | Yeah, but who takes the backlash damage? |
| robertliguori03-07-07, 07:15 AM | Give it up. Well, there's no reason you couldn't go all Melkor Bauglier on her if you do defeat her and and maim her, lobotomize (all) of her, and tie her up in unbreakable chains before drop-kicking her into a nondimensional hidey-hole and genociding all chromatic dragons and dragonspawn. |
| Arturius103-07-07, 03:11 PM | I don't take the prismatic dragon at face value. He's saved my character and the party more than a few times already. He's also been within the bounds of a temple of Bahamut with me, so if any of the dragons around (lots of 'em) detected evil, then they'd have smote him good. |
| johnkretzer03-07-07, 03:18 PM | I don't take the prismatic dragon at face value. He's saved my character and the party more than a few times already. Or Non- Detection? Or he might be really a neutral dragon who has been paud to do this...I guess I am just parniod. |
| Arturius103-07-07, 03:28 PM | Prismatic dragons are, by nature, neutral. But even neutral dragons pick sides in the war. But all that is beside the point. |
| Arturius103-08-07, 08:24 PM | Also, the prismatic acted as courier for Bahamut to invite me as a Vassal of Bahamut. Chances are he's kosher. |
| johnkretzer03-09-07, 12:05 AM | Also, the prismatic acted as courier for Bahamut to invite me as a Vassal of Bahamut. Chances are he's kosher. Ok just trying to get you to think. Anmyway as I said before work on ending the war on your planet...then maybe go cosmic. Also I would still ask Bahamut for advice on it...I mean he is one side that you'll have to have stop fighting. |
| Amon_WinterfallIV03-09-07, 01:10 AM | What about calling in the gem dragons? Maybe Saridor can serve as some kind of intermediary? I like the Mind Flayers angle--It works and its going to result an a third force hitting Tiamit (the Flayer's are probably toast, but not before they cause some damage) Also, Perhaps you can Coup Tiamit. She has five companions, one of each color. If she gets overthrown by her own minions, perhaps a more pliable replacement can be found. Without killing Tiamit, you can still deal enough damage to her organization as to decapitate and decimate it. Go with the orbs of Dragonkind--if you can get the Chromatic 5, you can give them to Bahamut and force them to surrender. |
