you do not play the shaman, you invoke the power of the shaman, draw him into you and let the shaman play you. :P

You could be a spirit shaman. Or you could be a cleric with a custom shamanistic faith. Treat the shamanistic faith as equivalent to a deity, with maybe the following parameters:

Alignment: Neutral (i.e., shamanist clerics can be NG, LN, N, CN, or NE)
Domains: Animal, Healing, Oracle, Weather
Favored Weapon: Sickle.
(Un)Holy Symbol: Caduceus.

Or you could be a bard. Or you could be a psion.

Ultimately, the best approach might be to figure out what you want your character to be able to do; then you can figure out what class you want to do it with.

Well you can always play the shaman in my sig if you want a more WC3/WoW shaman.
