| Tamuril03-09-05, 06:18 PM | I'm not often used to have characters with a high Cha, but decided for a change. She is a gloaming, and a rogue one at that. With Cha 18. How would this affect her personality and all that jazz? I'm just curious because I can't play my usual anti-interaction/anti-social character, or can I? Is there any guidelines I should attempt to stick to. She's also Chaotic Neutral... ^____^ Please and thank you! Tamuril |
| Draco Strang03-09-05, 06:31 PM | Well if she has a very low wisdom, she could be amazingly beautiful and have a magnetic personality (at first) but soon everyone will know what a stuck up little witch she is. Plenty of pretty, charismatic people are as mean as a pig. Or, you could go the route of "nice" and just have an attractive, personable character that people are attracted to on several levels, and can't stop hanging out with. |
| JadeSpider964303-09-05, 06:43 PM | Cha 18, your were probably 'the cool kid' at school. If your wis is low, your probably an air-head, a regular modern day diva. If your wis is medium/high, your straight up charming. |
| Morka03-09-05, 07:08 PM | With a Charisma 18, it's possible to be your usual antisocial character, she will have many suitors, and she will not care about any single one. You could still be the anti-interraction one, just waiting as the party chief is getting himself in some trouble to save the day with a few good sentences. But why would you be your usual antisocial, anti-interraction character? Why don't be the one who speak to everyone for a change? Also, remember that charisma is not only being attractive, it's having a good personality, speaking high and loud so everyone will hear you. Bart Simpson is charismatic, as are many politicians. |
| Cathon03-09-05, 07:16 PM | A high charisma is basically personal magnetism. People listen when you talk. A rogue with lots of points in diplomacy can talk his way through a confrontation. A sorceror with a high charisma just seems to be worth listening to even if you can't quite make out what he meant by that last point, you know he must have had the best intention in saying it. So it could be the popular person at school, or it could be like Christian Slater's character in Heathers, who is not popular, but is almost effortlessly persuasive. If you've got the expanded Return of the King, look at Christopher Lee's Saruman. From my acting experience if you want to play a charismatic individual you want to put empathy and sincerity in everything you say. Smile at people and look directly in their eyes when you talk to them. People want your approval and are crushed by your disapproval. Practice saying pointless things as if they are profound and emotionally charged. It will then be much easier when your words aren't pointless. Think of how Bill Clinton or Arnold Schwartzenegger would express something. Part of it should be the DM's and other players' job. How others react to you is the clearest indication of a high charisma character. |
| Board_Rider03-09-05, 07:39 PM | You could play the PC as alarmingly conceited as well. Using your beauty to get your way. People would probably still fall all over you, just to be seen with you. Take todays celebrity, they can say/do almost anything and still rebound without much problem. Even Michael Jackson still has adoring fans. With that CN alignment I could see you using the beauty as manipulative. |
| Vatras03-09-05, 08:30 PM | Be real nice, impress the others with your personality, make them envy you, and steal their hearts, before they find out you also stole their loot  |
| LCD2YOU03-09-05, 09:18 PM | As how the rest of your character is put together can influence what type of "Charisma" you exude. In all cases, people with high Charisma ooze magentism. What form of magnetism takes many forms. Low means =<7. Med 8< >13. High 14=< Low Dex. Tough one. Cute clutz. High Dex. Elegance and grace in one package. You don't walk into a room, you glide. Low Strength: The frial beauty that most (if not all) men want to take away and make secure. High Strength: That can do girl who watches football with the boys and smashes beer cans on her head and still looks good. She's even hotter when she cleans up. High Int, Wis: Strong personality backed by common sense and all the facts and figures. People listen to you not just for looks (your character could have the the face of the south end of a north bound baboon). High Int, Low Wis: Yeah, everything looks good, and so do you most liking, in your head. You're right and when someone spoils it (and those are the only times your stuff gets foiled, someone else's fault) blame them. Did I mention you're always right and usually bomblast your way past other people's (idiotic) concerns? Low Int, Low Wis: When combined with Low Strength, the ultimate baby doll. Who cares what you say, you're so darn cute reading the ingredients off of a Drano can. Low Int, High Wis: Forest Gump but darn good looking and usually very thoughtful. People may fool you, but never the same way twice. You could be listened to as what you say has wisdom beyond your years. Also most likely nice looking, not the knockout, but nobody would mind you hanging off of their arm. There's some in a nutshell. Of course, you can run the gambit of Low Strength, high everything else, etc., but you may be able to combine them with more that a few ideas yourself. |
| nightwing03-09-05, 09:46 PM | Here's my take: A person with 18 Cha has complete control of most any conversation. Thus, she will never come across as conceited, air-headed, ignorant, or anything less than a brilliant conversationalist unless she chooses to sound that way. A person with 18 Cha can practically sell a Yugo for the price of a Ferrari. It's not that everything she says is true or educated, just that she makes it seem so. Additionally, she has a body and demeanor to die for: regal, respectful, awe-inspiring, which is exceedingly distracting to most others, making it easy to overlook the inaccuracies in what she actually says. She can sell ice to eskimos and convice people to believe even some of the most outlandish stories imaginable. |

I think that the stats should be used in conjunction with the others. The more info you use to flesh out the character, the more real and therefore, IMHO, the more memorable they will become. |
| nightwing03-09-05, 10:00 PM | What I've said above is easily adapted to whatever other scores the character has. All players with 18 Cha will have these qualities in addition to whatever qualities other ability scores dictate. Cheers! |
| Tamuril03-10-05, 08:51 PM | I really think I'm going to enjoy playing this little gloaming! She's going to end up with the most awesome personality and I'm really going to just adore this little power that her Cha 18 seems to give her. Finally I'll have a character with a strong presence of personality. Now I've gotta give her some weird little qwirks. ^___^ I'm thinking a deadly fear of water that 'may' contain fish in it... Lol. That'll be cute. Again, thank you so much for all of the advice! If you have anything else to add please be sure to post it here! ^_____^ Thanks so much! Tamuril |
| JezzTheLame03-10-05, 11:00 PM | how do you role play character with 18 cha, i'll tell you when you can tell me how to roleplay a character with 81 cha, drow vampire lord level 25 sorceror la 40 |
| cbolt_toak03-10-05, 11:38 PM | Here's some things I would like to add. Force of Personality: She communicates very well. While Wisdom deals in how much is really in what she says and Intelligence effects how much someone could learn, Charisma makes sure she gets whatever it is she wants to say across. Persuasiveness: She gets what she wants. Intelligence gives her ideas on what she wants people to do and Wisdom lets her know that they can do it ahead of time, Charisma starts things moving. Personal Magnetism: She has fans. Wisdom lets her know who's really a friend among the crowds, and Intelligence puts them all to good use, Charisma just makes sure they are around. Ability to Lead: She knows how to tell people to do things. Intelligence puts some expertise and experience into the commands, and Wisdom brings some insight into whether or not it is even a good idea, but it takes Charisma to get them to do the most risky and foolhardy of tasks. Physical Attractiveness: She is hawt. Wis and Int don't do a damn thing here, it's all in the hips. lol. Also consider your skill sets for how you act too. With a High Cha, Bluff, Diplomacy, Disguise, Gather Information, Handle Animal, Intimidate, Perform, and Use Magic Device all set a certain personality depending on your ranks. People with more Bluff and Disguise are naturally inclined to deceive people and adapt to situations, while those with Diplomacy and Handle Animal are more empathetic. Gather Information and Intimidate form a basis to getting what you want. Perform makes people who love to entertain and Use Magic Device put people more in tune with the magic in everyone. Scores, Skills, and Setting all have alot to do with the Role-Playing of a character, so consider just about everything short of equipment choices when you define your character's personality. (Though sometimes equipment is important too.) |

| Aliquid03-11-05, 04:40 PM | If you want to play the "anti-interaction/anti-social character" with a high Cha, that's ok. You can use your body language to exude charisma from you. You walk with a sense of purpose; you sit with an air of authority... etc. If you are in a tavern, and all of your PC companions are drinking laughing and fraternizing with the other patrons... you just sit in the corner quietly observing. The people in the tavern will talk to each other: Barmaid – “Who’s that lady in the corner?” Tavern Owner – “I don’t know, but she sure looks important, probably a duchess or something” Barmaid – “Wow, why are we so lucky to have her at our tavern?” Tavern Owner – “Don’t ask me, but you better give her the best darn service possible, or I will tan your hide” Or how about a situation where the party runs into a bit of a conflict with the town guard? The party fighter will argue that you are all innocent, and it is a misunderstanding, and you will just quietly watch the argument. The more you quietly stare at the guards, the more uncomfortable they will get. Then you can calmly say, with a smile “You know, my fighter friend is telling the truth”, and if you roll well enough on your bluff/diplomacy, the guards will suddenly start stuttering “Of course my lady, I’m sorry my lady” I think it would be fun if you constantly pretended that you are far more important and influential that you really are (without ever actually saying it). |

Didn't consider that as a high Chr, anti-social personage. |
