Mr. Styx 01-02-05, 09:48 PM	There really aren't that many Role Players in my area. So I have to make my own campaign, acting as DM and the only PC in the campaign. It gets boring because i know what's happening, and nothing is surprising. I don't cheat cause that makes it worse! What do i do!?

Bulabase 01-03-05, 12:47 AM	Unless you live in a very small, isolated community, it is hard for me to believe you can't find anybody. The RPG classifieds on these boards might help, although the format is not very helpful. You might try a play by e-mail game. I have never done it, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Thinking only nerds play it kinda wierds em out or something. I tried the classifieds by the way. No answer. I do do instant messages to RP but i only know two people who will so far. And they aren't on often. But hey, if any one wants to help start a chat room for AIM or MSN, I'm all for it.
Fiery_Fighter_Drake 01-03-05, 09:38 AM	If you like hack-n-slash, I personally recommend The Temple of Elemental Evil. Tons of enemies to wade through until the release of D&D Online. Perhaps you could entice younger people to play with the Basic Game? It has everything you need to introduce newbies to the basic mechanics of the game (I am considering buying it myself to get more people playing D&D).

75RD Drum Clip 01-03-05, 08:30 PM	At times IMC as a DM I've needed to run an encounter for NPCs that are not with the party, but part of the game world. I just roll it out, use random encounter charts when needed or just Storyline the outcome which is preferred, but sometimes it has to be rolled out, the players can watch...though it might boring for them, though I tend to do this when the players are not around.

Good luck. I live in a pretty huge city, and have managed to have trouble finding groups. Not even groups to join, but actually just groups who play. So at the moment, and for quite a while, I've been restricted to RPG's on IRC.. which is fairly tiresome at times.
farscapesg1 01-03-05, 11:20 PM	OK, the classifieds on these boards are a joke to say the least :rolleyes: It can be very difficult finding groups in certain locations. Heck, it can be hard to find a group even around large cities. I live just North of Houston, TX and it took me almost 2 years to find a group to game with which required me to drive almost an hour each way. Then that group disbanded due to real life issues and I was stuck trying to game at College Station (also an hour drive). However, I can't dedicate more than 2 Saturdays per month to the hobby, so a group of college kids with plenty of spare time just didn't work well for a lasting group. I finally found a new group after another year of searching. This one is at least closer (about a 30 minute drive) and flexible on the schedules (maybe a little too flexible sometimes). You would think that being close to a large city (one of the largest in the US) would be benificial, but it didn't seem to matter. My best advice is to watch for any local conventions (if you have a fairly large city nearby) or possibly hit up the local colleges. In the town that I went to college at (Oklahoma State - middle of the bible belt) there never seemed to be a problem finding a gaming group. Also check with any of the local gaming stores (if you have them). Sometimes they have a "classifieds" board where you can put up a note looking for a group.

I've been searching for an online game, if you're trying to get one going, I think I would be interested in playing a character once a week, possibly more. Even a solo campaign would be fine by me, would probably be a great deal of fun. PM me if you are interested, and we can talk online sometime, I'm on pretty much everyday (Disclaimer: My dad, whom I have not seen in a year and half, arrived to visit on Sunday, and will be staying for a few more days, so for the next few days, I won't be online too much, mainly the late hours of the night.)
Aeromus 01-04-05, 01:33 AM	When I first started, before Advanced editions. The game was bought in boxes. One for each group of levels. And, they had solo adventures in this... sort of a play by book thing. Maybe you should look into such things.
