How does falling damage from weight/height work? [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-16-05, 03:00 PM The rules dont look like they support doing 300+d6 damage o.o I can't see how you do that kind of damage from only a 10 foot drop, but I could just be calculating things wrong...even with an elder earth elemental.

I'm just wondering this because I keep seeing threads about time stopping, flying over an enemy, and then becoming the elder earth elemental

06-16-05, 03:17 PM As I understand it, there is an upper limit to how much damage you can either take from a falling object or take from falling yourself. I believe it's 20d6.

Perhaps someone more clued up on this could confirm my beliefs?

06-16-05, 03:21 PM Weight should have no effect on falling damage.

As I understand it, the cap for falling damage is 20d6. Every 10 feet after the first adds exponential falling damage. I'm not sure of the specifics.

[edit again] a 6000 pound object falling 10 feet does 31d6 damage...where the heck are they getting 300+d6 from o.O I don't see it

06-16-05, 04:13 PM A trimed down version of the rules that is free online. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35 I'm not really sure off the top of my head what section it has. And the only way to do that kind of damage (the max is 20d6) is either an extream height or something that ways several tons.

The example the guy was using was an elder earth elemental (weight of 6,000 pounds) dropping from a height of 10 feet. He said it was 300+d6 damage...but i'm seeing 31d6, nothing close to 300+. Is he just wrong? Or is he finding some kind of loophole that i'm missing

A 400lb gnoll is knocked from a 300ft cliff onto a hapless hobgoblin down below.

The Gnoll takes 20d6 damage.

The Gnoll causes 22d6 damage to the Hobgoblin. Reflex Half.
