I am playing in a game right now as a vampire. now my characters main goal is become a vampire lord. In order to do that he needs to make and control 10 vampires. Now the question i have is how does the vampire control the vampires? is it telepathic? or verbal? |
| Jayr05-02-06, 05:38 PM | A vampire's spawn obey his commands and are utterly faithful to him, so you command the spawn verbally. |
| Doopliss05-03-06, 10:40 AM | I was sure they also had a mental link... |
| Lincoln Hills05-03-06, 02:21 PM | Naw, the notion of mental links makes vampires a bit too dangerous for most PCs to tangle with. Imagine if any vampire lord knew the instant any of his servants was attacked - he'd come zooming in himself, and order all his other servants there as well. Anybody feel like fighting 11 dominating, level-draining undead at once? |
| celtredleg05-03-06, 04:15 PM | Quick question, where is Vampire lord at?? I took a look and could not find it. I have a vamp in my current game, and she would definatly be interested in that. |

Anybody feel like fighting 11 dominating, level-draining undead at once? yes, that has just got to suck... :D Actualy the idea of mental control fits my impresion of vamps and spawn, but you do raise a good point. It would have to be short ranged. I just have a hard time seeing a vamp yelling and waveing his arms about like a squad leader in a firefight. |
| Doopliss05-03-06, 09:29 PM | Also, keep in mind that, depending on how you read the rules, enslaving ten true vamps would require you to be level 25. That's a spawn HD cap of 50, and you need to be HD 5 to become a true vamp. Cutting it kind of close, even then. ;) Of course, I could never figure out if it meant two vampires allowed per HD, or two vampire HD per your own HD. Hopefully, we won't need to find out in the campaign I currently play in. ;) |
| kimball_san05-03-06, 10:45 PM | yeah i was looking in the 3.0 rules and i couldn't find a hitdie cap so my dm said not to worry about that. so thanks for the answers. verbally it is. oh and at clet- heres the link for the vamp lord http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mm/20021018a |
| Lord Ian Stark05-03-06, 11:42 PM | Vampire lords are those few vampires who meet a strict set of requirements. They each have lived as a vampire for at least 100 years, and have acquired 10 or more class levels or Hit Dice. They tend to possess levels of arcane spellcasting classes, but not always. A vampire lord was formerly a vampire under the control of another vampire (not a vampire lord) and has slain its creator. Further, the vampire lord must have created at least 10 vampires and survived an assassination attempt by one of its subjects before achieving vampire lord status. Those are some steep RP requirements. Looks like you have to be at least an 18th Level character before you can take this PRC. (10 Class levels +8 LA) You can create a bunch of Vamps. Whether you still control them or not is irrrelevant. They could of been destroyed, you let them go, whatever. Get it? So 10 is a very easy number by ECL 18 IMO. |
