| JimProfit02-12-08, 09:56 PM | My GM thinks sneak attack works during every attack of oppurtunity. As such, I was gonna make a fighter sneak attack varaint (unearthed arcana) and rogue gestalt. To take full advantage of attacks of oppurtunity. How powerful do you think such a build would be? I've heard some say they wouldn't stack, but the GM says it's ok. But i had a few other ideas too but this was my favorite. Another was a sorcerer/bard to take advantage of the same key stat as well as be excellent with arcana magic. |
| Count_Chumleigh02-12-08, 10:12 PM | It's ... an okay idea, unless you're going against undead, constructs, or enemies with Fortification enhancements on their armor. Or fight at range a lot. Personally, I'd convince the DM to get things right about when sneak attacks apply first, because otherwise you're going to be in for a world of hurt when you go up against monsters with reach and a handful of Rogue levels. Personally, I'd also go with the Sorcerer/Bard combo before the double-sneak-attack-having Rogue/Fighter, too, but that's because I like Bards. Especially Bards who can afford to cast summon monster a lot. Cheers, Count Chumleigh |

The true limit is, . . . very very very high. If you want pure sneak attack damage, you must take bloodlines. Bloodlines give you random bonus, but they also advance the [level based] class abilities of every class and PrC you currently have. That means the more PrCs you have in essence, the higher the sneak attack damage you can get. Assassin level/2 +1 Invisible Blade level level/2 + 1 Arcane Trickster level/2 Ghost Faced killer level/2 Nightsong Enforcer level/3 + 1 Black Flame Zealot level/3 Daggerspell mage level/3 DaggerSpell Shaper level/3 Darkwood stalker level/3 level/2+1 mean if you take 2 bloodline levels, you can gain an extra dice of SA from them level/2 mean if you take 3 BL, you gain extra SAD level/3 and level/3 + 1 mean if you take 3 BL, you will keep the equivalent SAD. The last one, while you keep your SAD, it might be useful to take it to gain other abilities. You can use crystal keep to look classes up, but dont trust it for details. I don't know the progression rate for fighter's sneak variant, since it's not in crystal keep, but I'm going to assume it's same as rogue, or it's only level/2, (2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20) The following is just a calculation of sneak attack damage. You can mix and match levels between the classes that progress sneak attack damage the same. So you can trade 2 levels of rogue for assassin if you want a particular class feature. 40 03 Bloodlines 02 Assassin +3d6 SAD 02 Invisible Blade +3d6 SAD 01 Arcane Trickster +2d6 SAD 01 Ghost Face +2d6 SAD 20 Rogue +12d6 SAD 11 Fighter +7d6 SAD 29d6 SAD. Lol, Get shurikens so you can throw multiple ones at once, each for only 1 + 29d6 damage If you really want shurikens, you can get the ranged rogue variety for a bonus 1d6. Here's a thread for a non-gestalt character which will show you how to buff it up even more. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?p=15078479#post15078479 Shurikens . . . you can throw 3 at onces. You can make them forked, boomeranging, and you can make strength a dump stat. |

Sorcerer//bard works well, as does sorcerer//paladin (it's true), cleric//monk etc. Problem is I can't really advise you, seeing as your DM has got the sneak attack system wrong there's no telling what else he has got wrong. |
| Reyemile02-13-08, 05:03 PM | +1 Seriously, your GM is making up rules; unless we know all the rules he's hacking, we can't advise you. And even if we could, I personally wouldn't. This needs to be moved to the Character Optimization board, the place for build advice. |
