03-03-07, 06:41 PM Hey people um Im gonig to be getting the D&D basic game V3.5 soon for me and my mates to start playing D&D and I was wondering how long will D&D basic game last me untill I need to spend more money caus I aint got much of that so tell me please how long will it last me?

03-03-07, 06:44 PM It depends how many sessions you have and how long those sessions last. The basic game has 5 or miniadventures in it, I think. If you do one advetnure a week, then you've got about 5 weeks.

Yeah, Ive been going 5 years one justy core. I've looked at other books, but I dont much care for them. although tome of magic (i know it is underpowed) look interesting, im thinking of gettign this one.

With but a handful of exceptions that don't really matter I have played 3rd Edtion D&D with only the Core Rules - Players Handbook, Dungeon Masters Guide, and Monster Manual, since it was first published in August of 2000. I will ALWAYS be able to play D&D using only the Core Rules. I still have a decently long list of character ideas that require ONLY the Core Rules, and any number of ideas that I can play over and over again - and NEVER diminish my enjoyment of the game.

Playing D&D over the long term requires no money - just imagination. Not that there will be no DESIRE to spend more money on D&D CONSTANTLY - just that it's not necessary. Once you've bought into it D&D requires almost no continual investment to continue to enjoy it.

You can play without spending any money at all. Well - except for some dice.

03-06-07, 03:35 AM The core books are, as everyone is saying, the only thing you will need, and I cannot honestly recommend any other books that are absolutely essential. If you are like me, and really enjoy the game, but don't have a lot of time to be overtly creative, buying a campaign world might be worth the $30 - 40. My friends and I enjoy the Forgotten Realms, as many D&D players do. Aside from that, books with prestige classes are also always helpful. But again, I would buy the books together in a pack, which will save you money. I think you can buy all three core books (a $90 value) for $60. Back in 2000 when I bought the core books they cost only $20 each...

03-06-07, 03:47 AM Like its been said before, get the core books (DMG, PHB, MM) wich come in a nice little box set (ranging from $50-90USD). After that its like I always tell my friends: "Its all in your head". I remember that the bassic set (set of die, map, pices and the little prefab adventures) lasted my group about 6 months before we decided to get the core books and what not. What we did was use the same characters and bought more adventure mannuals (not bad for 5 bucks each lol) when we finished the starter adventures. After we got the core books and got a good DM boy did we blast off from their.
