Fort deadly kick 09-11-05, 05:11 AM	Fighters have always been one class I particularly liked. The fact they are consistent as they go up in levels means they are good for multiclassing and their versitility and free feats make them great for building custom characters. Recently I have been noticing that specialised classes such as monks, swashbucklers, rangers, barbarians ect, could all be made very easily from the fighter, But since they have special fancy stuff like ki and animal companions, they are a stronger choice. It fact, the only good builds left for a fighter seem to be trip expert and possibly pure power attacking feat monger. Almost all the other types have been made into a specialist core class. The free fighter feats are there so he can advance in his chosen style quicker, but since the ranger and monk ect get free feats for their specialsation much quicker anyway, he seems dissapointingly obsolete. So forgetting all of this, Can somebody show me as may different types of builds, no matter how small the differences are? Maybe the build of your last fighter? Maybe we could also share some memories and tales? I'll start with some basic ones. Archer Unarmed combat Weapons master
Rhomphaia 09-11-05, 05:51 AM	I used to have a list of builds, but I lost it. I do remember (PHB feats only) many of the basic builds. Weapon Specialist- Focuses on one specific weapon, with some versitility in case he is without it. Other than the obvious weapon-specific feats, Quick Draw, Improved Unarmed Strike and Blind Fighting are all taken. (note- I played this build with a VoP fighter and was very effective with him). Scrapper- Concentrates on dealing as much damage as he can to as many opponents as he can in as little time as possible. Focuses mainly on the Power Attack (going to Cleave and great Cleave), Two-Weapon Fighting and Combat Expertise (mainly just Improved Trip) chains. Mounted and Archer- I do not need to explain these do I? Brute- Uses sheer overwhelming raw power to take his foes down. Heavily focuses on all aspects of the Power Attack chain. Finessier- Agility and mobility are key for this fighter. Focuses on light weapons, Dodge, Mobility, all aspects of the Combat Expertise chain, and Spring Attack.
Particle 09-11-05, 06:45 AM	battle field controller or tactical builds: Builds that concentrate on controling the battle filed. a good example is the gattling chain gun tripper that tries to trip every opponent so the rest of the party has a easier time killing them. Another one is the Goliath the gets a free knockback(/bullrush) attempt everytime he makes a succesfull Power Attack, and he gets a free Trip attempt everytime he makes a succesfull knockback(/bullrush). BadCatMan 09-11-05, 07:18 AM	Defender: Has High AC (either dodge-based or heavy-armour based), and stands as a wall between the enemies and the weaker characters. Usually operating as bait or a distraction so other characters can set up spells, flanks, sneak attacks and spring attacks.
Torack 09-11-05, 08:35 AM	Lessee. There's the Tank, basically a character who can soak up damage up the wazoo. I like to think the Dwarven Defender is almost iconic for this one. High Con, and AC due to armour Mobility fighter, relies on a ton of attacks of opportunity, move around the battlefield a load. Scout would fit in well with this build. Heavy hitter. Basic premise is that it deals so much damage that it doesn't need to worry about being hit since it kills with the first hit. Special Attack warrior. Grappling, tripping, bull rushing, disarming. This character does them all. Flanker. Aids the other characters(mostly the rogue) in getting their sneak attacks. Archer. What do I need to expand on? Mounted rider. Again, are explanations really necessary? Battlefield commander. Leadership feat and variants are its forté. This man lets other do the dirty work.
