| CriminalTruth07-15-06, 02:16 PM | i dont have the sword and fist and i am curious how much it is? and is it +6 to STR dex and wis? or +6 to str con and wis? if u could help me out thanks. |
| Timeout07-16-06, 04:22 AM | 180.000gp in sword and fist + 6 str,dex,wis |
| Merestil Haye07-16-06, 07:53 AM | 180.000gp in sword and fist + 6 str, dex, wisremember that the item pricing rules changed with the conversion to 3.5. I'd estimate the price to be the same, but it's not necessarily the case. Also, some DMs would rule that the item has a higher price. So check with your DM before assuming that it's 180k. |
| Millennium07-16-06, 09:20 AM | Providing an ability bonus is usually (bonus squared) * 1000gp. Three +6 bonuses works out to (36,000 * 3) = 108,000 gp. However, two of those bonuses are Strength and Dexterity, and a headband is the wrong body slot for these. Multiply these two costs by 1.5 to get 36,000 + [(26,000 * 1.5) * 2] = 144,000 gp. I must be missing something here, because this would seem to indicate that the price goes down significantly for 3.5. That doesn't sound right. |
| Skadrian07-16-06, 10:05 AM | You forgot the rule about aplying a second effect, you need to multiply the second and third effect bij 1.5 again I think, so you would have to add about another 50k, which would make it slightly higher, so 180k would be about right |

The final price will therefore depend on whether your DM decides that these are treated the same way as other mulipliers in D&D or treats them as normal arithmetic. Normal arithmetic Price is 36k + 36k*1.5*1.5 + 36k*1.5*1.5 = 36k + 81k + 81k = 198k D&D arithmetic Price is 36k + 36k*(1+0.5+0.5) + 36k*(1+0.5+0.5) = 36k + 72k + 72k = 180k Me? I'd have made this a belt, saving one of the body-slot adjustment increases. |
| DarkNick07-16-06, 05:03 PM | The most important thing here is "step away from the headband!". They are not cool dude. They used to be cool for tennis players but not anymore. Even Tanis halfelven and goldmoon struggled to make headbands look good (the feathers helped though). How can you take an adventurer seriously that is wearing a headband? Might as well get a bandana and look like a gangsta with lowrider platemail. Whatsup my elf-******? (edit - so the n word is not good in america? Sorry, it is in pretty common usage here in my country - though we don't have many african decended blacks in my country, we are mostly pacific islanders) |
| Kessalin Talira07-17-06, 09:45 AM | Normal arithmetic Price is 36k + 36k*1.5*1.5 + 36k*1.5*1.5 = 36k + 81k + 81k = 198k D&D arithmetic Price is 36k + 36k*(1+0.5+0.5) + 36k*(1+0.5+0.5) = 36k + 72k + 72k = 180k Me? Without that, rings would undoubtedly be cheapest, as there are no body-slot issues to contend with. |
| magnuskn07-18-06, 08:20 AM | Only that the Belt of Magnificence is incredibly underpriced and therefore broken. "Real" price of the thing should be 36000 + 5*54000 = 306.000 Gold, therefore making it an epic item, so multiply by 10, so it is worth 3.060.000 Gold. Itīs even more expensive if you go with the body slot rule, which I personally ignore ( partially... no Goggles of Natural Armor or somesuch ) in my campaign. |
| AmanitaEata07-18-06, 03:08 PM | Headbands are WAY too '80s. Next thing you know, you'll want to be buying a set of Legwarmers Of Speed. |
| Kessalin Talira07-19-06, 04:20 AM | I agree with the fact that the Belt of Magnificence is underpriced by a lot. I've done the math too. However, I disagree with the statement that it's an epic item. Items can exceed 200,000 gp in value and not be epic items. Because the belt doesn't give more than a +6 bonus to a stat, it's not epic as far as I'm concerned. In addition, 3.06 million gp is MASSIVELY overpriced for that item. The ELH mentions that 200,000 gp is the cutoff, but it doesn't make sense to multiply the cost by 10 just because it exceeds that price. Incidentally, take a look at the Boots of Swiftness in the ELH. Following the same pricing scheme for the 3 million gp belt, those boots should be, what, 2,560,000 gp? They're not, and the belt of magnificence +6 shouldn't be either. |
| Merestil Haye07-19-06, 03:27 PM | The ELH does say that only some of the epic criteria trigger the *10 multiplier. The one it specifically says does not trigger the multiplier is caster level. However, on the evidence of the Staff of Power, price is another. There are also items in noncore books that break this threshold, but are "regular" magic items not epic items. I don't use the value threshhold to determine whether an item is epic; if you do, I would suggest it needs raising to at least ž million. |
