| Dolo07-25-06, 01:38 PM | I just finished watching "In the Pale Moonlight" Episode from DS9 and I have to say that is one of the best moral conflict episodes. I know that my LG character comes from a rough mold of Sisko and he is starting to face this same kind of tough choices. It's one of the few episodes that shows how big that grey area can be and the breaking point a LG runs into. It's an amazing episode. Is there characters IRL or fiction that you base or would base your character's off on? If you have, did they run into any moral quandries that made them think or cross lines they wouldnt have?((If you have a DM that allows you to explore these kind of situations and not take the bat to your character immediately it helps.)) |

I have a LG Knight that just got turned into a vampire against his will. So you could call that a moral dilemma... Do I drink people’s blood or die... I’m still note quite sure how I’m going to play it. I have to at least remain Lawful. |

Take only what you need to barely get by and while that is happening find a cure, if possible. Still damn that is a hard road. Another idea((This is really dependant on your DM's view of the religions he has.))is go to a God of Healing or some good Aligned diety that can help find a cure. |

Assumption you have is that it's a disease and not a curse. Many people will say you are auto evil and thus have no issues with drinking blood and not want to be cured. I myself think that is a cop out and a load of crap but that is what many people will say. Undead doesn't mean auto evil. Hell I think mindless undead are neutral, they have no malice in them... but then again thats just my opinion. Anyways sorry Dolo I have not. I play characters that tend to be really unique and that generally doen't fit anything i see on TV. |

I’m still note quite sure how I’m going to play it. I have to at least remain Lawful. Buy livestock and drain them of blood, then chop up the body and sell the parts at the market. No where does it say you have to drink human blood. DnD vampires need some work anyways to be playable or appear like sterotyped vamps since they dont really drink blood. Drinking blood is con damage, while DnD vampires deal con drain which can not normally be healed. More like sucking out their soul. I would use the half vampire template and add light sensitivity (damaging) and change the con drain to con damage. Also need to figure out a mechanic on how much fills you up and how long. Bah im babbling... |
| Dolo07-26-06, 12:21 PM | It depends on what his DM is aiming for, but if it was my character even if I knew it was't a disease I would still would try to find a cure. Heck that is one heck of a quest into itself, so I hope he is having fun. Well even if you dont, really the question is more towards does your character get into situations that are really murky and where things get difficult? |
| vogster07-26-06, 01:00 PM | I should clarify a few things. 1. The whole party is now vampires. 2. This is a vampire template that my DM created/modified. 3. We need 3 units of con drain per day and can store a certain amount over that so that we don’t have to drink every day. 4. The DM had this planned the whole time and thought it would make for an interesting campaign which is why he told us all we would be fighting vampires but did not tell us there was little chance of us not becoming vampires. This is hilarious because we have exalted characters in our group and almost everyone is good with 1 or 2 people being neutral. 5. This is a totally custom world and we do not yet know if we can be cured or the rules on what we can drink from yet. :) 6. We are not instantly evil and our DM has explained that our alignment will change based on how we handle becoming vampires. Overall I was a little freaked out at first but I think this is going to be fun. |
| mlund07-27-06, 08:07 PM | The Wolf feeds upon the Sheep. He does not mourn for that is the relationship set down by the universe. Nor is he cruel to his prey, for it serves no purpose. In this sense, a preying upon others when it is your only means of survival is generally a Neutral Act. The fact that a vampire has the knowledge and means to take what he needs to survive without inflicting permanent harm on other people makes doing so a wanton act of cruelty, and thusly Evil. Surviving without doing permanent harm would be Neutral. Making honest bargains to buy what you need to survive rather than taking it by force or stealing it would be a Lawful act. So a Lawful Good character who was turned into a vampire would seek to A.) not harm his prey B.) find some sort of orderly and respectful way of coming by what he needs honestly and C.) find a means to make it so that he no longer poses a danger or burden to other people (IE - find a cure or finish his all-important quest and accept "purification" by Fire or Sunlight). - Marty Lund |
