Ok so I'm realy a DM and I am actuely askinig this as one, but I want players point of view.

How do you react to the Charm person spell?
Recently I had 4 vapire spowns atack the band of adventures under my control oops I ment in my game. :smirk: First round of combat they use the charm person on four of the 6 PCs. They all make their saves except the 1/2 orc, no suprises there. What was also of little suprise was the players complaints to let the vamp "kiss him to make him stronger". We went through the wording of the spell and through the wording of the request. The conclusion was that he wouldn't come to the vamp becouse his friend, that is the PCs were under the atacks of his new friend's friends, the other vamps. My response was he comes to you and grapels you as a free action and starts sucking (the MM states that a charmed subject lets the vamp suck him (his blood of course!! ) )

So the question: How am I supoesed to give teh players control over their loss of control? How to roleplay this?

If I were a DM, I'd ask for the player's character sheet for as long as they're charmed.

Re-reading the Charm Person spell, if his allies are being attacked, he gets a +5 bonus to his save. Beyond that, he's only going to be able to resist if the vampire's allies attack him personally. The vampire's charm ability may be different, but I've always been of the opinion that a Charmed character is entirely under DM control for the most part, unless something happens to snap the character out. According to the description, the only thing that counts is the vampire or his allies attacking the barbarian himself, he could care less about his party.

Of course, once the vampire starts sucking, he can probably start fighting back, but he's probably screwed at that point anyway.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. The character is certainly not under the DMs control. That's dominate person. Charm person makes you regard the person as a trusted friend and ally. I don't think you'd do everything a trusted friend and ally told you to do. Having said that, the character would certainly let the vampire kiss him, unless he had some huge aversion to physical intimacy, in which case he gets a charisma check. The player's excuse was non-sense. His friends were fighting. One of his most wonderful friends wants to give him a little kiss. He would certainly comply.
