| Giantslayer01-22-05, 03:26 PM | Now then, hello =) I promise, it's not as bad as it sounds. My dm, keeps saying that he wants us to evolve our characters, roleplay on their traits, work out "without the sheet" and thinking outside the box so to speak. Problem is, he doesn't give us much to "play on" if you get my point. How do I manipulate him into insinuating more, all we have to go on so far, is some strange burn mark, that all our characters had after waking up after a nightmare. NO-ONE will answer any questions about it, any NPCS that we shwo 'em to get either hostile or scared as hell. and believe me, we've been trying to learn something about this for the last 5 frikkin levels. just dead. no "dead ends" 'cause a dead end is at the end of SOMETHING, it's just a "dead". And as to our characters. let's take mine for example, even the DM himself says he has NO clue whatsoever when figuring out what to do with this guy. Heh, this character plays itself, even I haven't really figured him out, all I know is that I wanna become a ghostwalker at lvl 10, I've hinted ALOT about needing a reason for him to "be driven" into the "solitary" ways of a ghostwalker. I've also flat out TOLD the dm (since he told us that Aging will be a large part of the campaign, well be OLD when we reach lvl 20, oh, all races ages like humans), That my character had a serious fear of death(I've roleplayed him as a coward after all), and that he is searching for a way to become "ageless" (without dabling into monk levels), ie' he doesn't wanna die from old age, still, nothing to play on.... Currently my character is a happy, coward, charming, lovesick bard/rogue, Who will SPRING into action when given a reason. but when no reason is given, or isn't prompted, it's hard to get him to move. He'd rather just slack off under a tree, or hit on the blacksmiths daughter, belinda... :D for those who know about trigun, think of him like Vash the stampede, and, after level 10, a cross between vash and wolfwood. hence, the "Ghostwalker" prestige class. Now, I've seen alot of dms asking the question "how do I get my players to roleplay more". My question to you is: How do I get my DM to give us something to roleplay ON?? Cya -me |
| mcnoo01-22-05, 04:01 PM | go out drinking with him, start talking about the game, thats how most of my secrets end up revealed. |
| Board_Rider01-22-05, 04:26 PM | Simply keep turning down "simple" hooks and make him work at it. Tell him repeatadly to "paint you a pictue". Or just talk to him. |
| Draco Strang01-22-05, 04:44 PM | Board Rider is onto something. |
| Kadasbrass01-22-05, 04:50 PM | Building on what Board Rider said: One thing to do is when he drops the 'fishing hook' for you to nibble on you can do a 180 and walk off another direction. Image yourself as a blindman, your just 'stumpling along,' and your not going to see the fishing hook the DM lays out, you have to be able to hear it, smell it, feel it and finally you need to be able to taste it. Or you have to trip over it, which ever happens first. If you start turning down the simple stuff he lays for you, the DM might get more involved in getting you to take the bait into a quest or adventure and in the process give you more to Roleplay on. |
