I've always wanted to get into DnD, I love to roleplay and all that jazz, so I was posting to ask about what I need to buy/read to get started off. I'm pretty well off with money so I shouldn't have much problem buying it.

To play you only need the Player's Handbook. If you want to DM you also need to pick up the Monster Manual and the Dungeon Master's Guide. Those three books are known as the core rulebooks. There's also a plethora of optional books out there (known as splatbooks) that, among other things, add new feats, classes, game mechanics, etc.

That and don't forget the dice. Also, you need people to play with, so try to get your friends into it or try to find a group to play with.

I don't think finding a group will be too hard, there's a store that usally has people in it play DnD.

Thanks for the info, i'll try and pick those up and read the crap out of them.

I didnt wanna start a new thread so this seemed the spot to ask...

I went out and got the PHB 3.5 etc. but ive yet to get a hold of dice cause...i dont know exactly what it is im gonna need. The PHB says you need a set of dice for each person playing, this includes: 1 d4, 4 d6, 1 d8, 2 d10, 1 d12 and 1 d20. Problem is...everywhere i see "dice sets" (like at crystal castes site or even the new official d20 d&d dice out in sept. or whatever) it ends up being a total of 7 (not 10) or types which dont add up to the ones the PHB says. I dont even see percentile dice around...so can someone point me in the direction of what i really need as far as dice goes and/or where to find real FULL sets.

thanks for listening ehe...

Surprising. Any gaming store should sell sets that include the 'standard' dice, which are exactly what you listed save that they usually get away with 3d6 instead of 4. But you only really need 3 anyway. When rolling stats, the most common time you'll need 4, just remember the lowest of the 3's number and roll it again. If it's higher, keep it, if not, keep the old number.

As for the more general topic; a set of dice, a Player's Handbook, some paper, pencils, and erasers, and (preferably) some pre-printed character sheets, of which everyone has their own preference so I won't suggest a specific one. If you just want something quick, though, WotC has some available for download as PDFs you can print off easily, and they're not bad. The character sheets aren't strictly necessary, but IMHO they make things much easier to distinguish and find. Which can be absolutely golden for a new player still getting the hang of things.

What ussually happens in those sets of dice is that they only include one 6-sided dice. Those sets are good and worth getting, you just need to invest in 3 more 6-sided and you'll be set.

As for the percentile dice, that is the second d10. A percentile roll is made by rolling 2d10. If for example they come up as a 9 and a 6, you would get a % of 96 (just make sure you designate which will count as the 10s place. Some will actually have numbers that go up by 10s [00, 10, 20, etc], in that case use that dice as your 10s)
