I recently came into possession of an old version of the Draconomicon (not the new 2003 release) and within it I discovered the Steel Dragon. I checked out more information for the dragon online, and now I feel like playing a dragon in the guise of an elf in our next campaign.

Except I'm wondering how to play him. He'll be, for most of the campaign, in his elf-druid guise, so I'm wondering whether he should be treated as an elf in all his rolls, particular saving, resistance, and magic effects, or as a dragon?

He'll be treated as a dragon in an elf body. I wouldn't suggest this, as you will have a horrible LA, and the HD wouldn't be that useful in determining what you could do, but if you do, and are playing an appropriate age catagory, ditch the druid and go wizard or sorcerer, since you can already cast the spells.

Also, you get Elf ability scores, so you'ld end up being a PC with Str 10, Dex 12, and Con 8, since you don't roll for your polymorphed stats.

Our DM's very laid back and has already said that this character would be alright.

Alright, thank's for that info Mindolin.
